Both pilots die after Greek firefighting plane crashes
Damn, that's so sad. All I can think of all their combined experience that made them perfect for this job. They were helping as best they could and now they're gone. :(

When will the floss stop hurting
Try a waterpik, or just go easier on yourself. Also grandma is right, flossing is really good for you and will improve your oral health a lot. I floss basically after every time I eat, it's just automatic and feels so good to have clean teeth

Like a hot tub: Water temperatures off Florida soar over 100 degrees

You can only do so much. Life was set up this way for us by countless generations before us. You can reduce your energy requirements, reduce/reuse/recycle, but it will only help so much at the individual level. Never stop trying. Never stop trying to convince your friends and family to reduce their footprint. I bug my SO every time they put something recyclable in the trash or they buy something we don't need.
But the world is burning because of greed and we can't individually put an end to that. Live your life, do what you can, share love. It's the best we can do right now.

According to someone on a discord server I am in, Reddit has started adding watermarks to every post?
It's not super new, they've been doing that for a while. It's pretty difficult to get a direct source to the image even if you dig into your browser's developer tools.

FCC slaps $300M fine on “largest illegal robocall operation” it’s ever seen
Reply in thread
Maybe it'll help as long as the fine is some % of their net income. Sweden does this, speeding tickets are a % of your income instead of a fixed fine, so someone with $10MM will still feel the burn.

What is a technological advancement today that you wish never existed?
Reply in thread
I think it depends on the context though. Data mining of environmental sensors might yield valuable insights. Mining anonymized medical data could improve chances of catching a disease early, etc.
Agree on ads though. Nothing like having pharmaceutical ads stuffed down my throat while trying to watch a speedrun or whatever.

If I could go back in time I would keep plastic, but make it seem scary/dangerous due to how it never breaks down in the environment, and in turn hopefully cause regulation over how plastic should be produced, recycled, and disposed of before it became such a massive ubiquitous problem (micro plastics, pacific gyre, pollution, etc).

Same here. I bought a big bottle of gummies and cut them up into smaller cubes. Now I can just pop a cube or three for however much I want to feel that day.

It is really interesting. I posted a comment and didn't even realize it wasn't on kbin until I scrolled up to go back to the home page. It was seamless. Super fucking cool.

What makes Philips Hue lights so great?
They're solid networked bulbs. They just work and there's no annoying flicker like you may get with PWM LED bulbs. I like being able to change the color of them depending on my mood and the vibe. Friday night comes around and I set everything to fun colors, blast some music, have friends over, etc., it's a good time and the bulbs contribute. I have a light strip around the mirror in my bathroom and another strip under my cabinets in the kitchen which provide better lighting than the ceiling lights.
I also sometimes set everything to red at night since it's easier on the eyes. It's nice being able to have super cool white for doing work, and warmer (sometimes nearly orange/red) for relaxing in the evening.
You could use Govee instead, they're a little cheaper, but IMO Hue is generally nicer quality.
