Linux continues to be above 4% on the desktop

I just got a steam deck and I'm surprised how well it runs games. It's not quite as refined as a switch but it can run games were designed to run windowed in Windows with a mouse and keyboard. It can translate the game to run on Linux, the inputs to a gamepad and convert the game from being windowed to fullscreen. It's impressive and if the games were actually designed for the deck I feel like it could feel as seemless as the switch.

It is really making me consider Linux for my desktop once Windows 10 reaches EoL. The only game I've found that doesn't work is Destiny 2. Even the desktop mode on the deck is surprisingly nice

I've always thought the licensing for Jetbrains IDEs is a pretty fair way of licensing software. If you stop subscribing you still get access to the last version of the software you paid for but you don't get new versions anymore. And if you stay subscribed you get a loyalty discount after your first and second years. So it provides an incentive to stay subscribed long term but if you do leave you still get access perpetually to the last version you bought

Discontinuing the Teensy at Adafruit

So instead of selling on both Sparkfun and Adafruit, having what seems like a monopoly on Teensy style boards, Sparkfun decided it would be smarter to stop selling to Adafruit and force their hand to make an open source competitor

That's an interesting business decision...

Bazzite sees a massive jolt in installs in late June and early July, catapulting it to over 86k active devices. It has doubled the number of active devices since November.

If you plan on gaming on atomic Fedora it is basically just that with everything already preconfigured. I chose it because it came with Nvidia drivers, codecs, a bunch of tweaks and gaming utilities preinstalled (protonqt, distrobox, lutris, etc)

You could install all of this on Fedora but IMO it's convenient to just have everything already configured for you if you were going to do it anyways

I also like that it is atomic. Builds on the same image tag guarantee an identical build, which completely fixes the "works on my machine" problem when helping my friends. Two users on the same release will never have mismatched shared libraries or rogue packages, everyone on the same tag has the exact same environment. Plus, it makes rolling back bad upgrades incredibly easy

I've seen a lot of comments online of people saying they'll leave Windows 10 once SteamOS has general availability. I fear that'll lead them to having a bad experience with Linux because they'll be expecting a desktop OS but instead receive an OS that turns their computer into a console. There's a couple features Bazzite has (like printer drivers) which you might want on something replacing Windows 10 but you probably don't care about if you have a handheld or a steam machine
