Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?

the fediverse has done a great job replacing reddit for my scrolling-though-random-stuff needs! as for more niche stuff, it's still not there yet (as has been pointed out many, many times already), but i'm trying to help! i'm posting and commenting regularly on ![email protected]. "be the change you want to see" and all that. i encourage everyone else to do the same with their niche communities!

edit: though at this point i have 4 accounts across different instances (here, lemmy.world, kbin.social, feddit.online), thanks to various things. so it's not entirely smooth sailing for me right now

Are you buying?

so many nice little things!

  1. hope waddle dee and kirby are having fun!
  2. a very appropriate expression from kirby towards kawasaki's cooking!
  3. cake! fork (presumably not the type that shrinks you down and makes you fall onto the cake)! (knife!) cute lil bib for kirby!
  4. ducky!
  5. elfilin cameo!! unfortunately bandee doesn't seem to be there
  6. that bed seems kinda... well actually it's probably the right size for kirby, it's just a lot smaller than many other depictions of kirby's bed. also that blanket is not doing its job very well (unless only kirby's right foot happens to be cold at the moment)

happy 8th anniversary for undertale, c/undertale_deltarune!

he released a new installment of the newsletter, too!

There was an interesting guy called "Beat Mario". His young kid was there running around yelling stuff like "I wanna go home!" "I wanna go home!" Soon after meeting him for the first time, Beat Mario picked up his kid and pushed them into me, trying to get me to hold them, but I just sort of backed up repeatedly. His wife asked me if I was afraid of children, and I accidentally agreed because I misunderstood her Japanese and thought she asked if I was bad at holding kids. Then she picked up the child and started spinning them around and making them do flips and said "it's easy, once they aren't babies you can basically do whatever you want as long as you don't drop them." It was cool, it was essentially like a free circus performance. "Sorry, I know you're afraid of children..." Wait, I'm not! But it was too late to correct myself, so they probably still think that.

(from a truck-freaks-exclusive part of the newsletter)

also what's up with the lost girl leitmotif in that sneaking song

It's Undertale's 8th anniversary! Here's the art that Temmie drew for the newsletter

i don't remember when exactly i got into undertale -- i'm fairly certain it was before deltarune chapter 1 released. i actually haven't played undertale itself, but i have played the first two chapters of deltarune. lots of cool stuff from both the games themselves and the fandom surrounding the games! i'm not that active anymore when it comes to this fandom (mostly been focusing on kirby for the past while, trying to contribute a lot to c/kirby in a way that i'm sadly much less equipped to do with this community), but toby's stuff has been a pretty not-insignificant part of my life

trying this out: Question of the Day! What's your favorite Undertale song?

oh, this didn't get federated over to the main lemmy.world version of the community! :(

i'm 24 days late, but the thread is at the top of active for lemmy.world/c/undertale_deltarune now because i brought it over, so:

hopes and dreams, save the world, and undertale are all incredibly strong contenders for me. the use of leitmotifs! the key changes in hopes and dreams and undertale! the feeling of warmth and hope when once upon a time section C plays for the first time in save the world (ironically not hopes and dreams)! and of course, the emotion they all bring in context! toby fox absolutely nailed the music for the keyest moments in the game.

oh, and also shout out to a song that's genuinely pretty nice to listen to: can you really call this a hotel, i didn't receive a mint on my pillow or anything

do you say the "oo" in "awoofy" like the "oo" in "goose" or the "oo" in "foot"?

i wasn't able to find an official english pronunciation from the nintendo of america youtube channel, but here's how various youtubers pronounce it:

/u/ as in "goose" / awoofy:
AntDude
pengyd769
Miketendo
The Completionist
Quasimofo
BornLosersGaming
StephenPlays
The D-Pad

/ʊ/ as in "foot" / awoofy:
Etce
Daily Doodles for You
KirbyVolt
ZackScottGames

based on this list, it seems like the first pronunciation (/u/ as in “goose”) is more common. but this isn't a big sample size so who really knows. feel free to bring up how other youtubers / notable people say it.

What are you reading this weekend? 7/14?

not the weekend anymore, but this is the most recent "what are you reading?" post i can find, so:

just read Kirby: On The Flipside! for the first time recently -- it's a long, well-executed anime/game crossover with an ongoing sequel. also reread the entirety of Guessing Games (a kirby chatfic where kirby has to guess the identities of previous villains in the chat)... either last night or the night before, i don't remember.

YES WE DO HAVE CONNECTION!

(also happened in aforementioned backstory, though not necessarily with the same level of enthusiasm. maybe it even happened with a much higher level of enthusiasm)

new activity on this community, after so long! i was trying to comment on another post for the past day or so and i believe it's still not working

oh yeah and i've switched instances to lemm.ee to try and help lessen the load on lemmy.world

oh and for those of you wondering why the comment count on lemmy.world is so high despite this being the only set of comments, that's because i've edited this post a bunch of times and there's some bug that counts those edits as new comments or something. sorry about that -- but hey, come on in and contribute some actual comments!

(above three paragraphs absolutely did not happen in aforementioned backstory)

Favourite AUs?

[another repost of something that didn't federate last time i tried to post it.]

what about fandom-specific aus? undertale/deltarune is well-known for those. i would like to highlight inverted fate in particular -- very high production quality, great and nuanced characterization, and plenty of awesome and emotional moments.
