I used to prefer Gnome for the longest time. It seemed to be lighter on resources and cleaner. I tried KDE again a few years ago and was blown away at how much better it has gotten. KDE has quickly become my go to. The ease of customization, theming, and the wealth of settings sold me on it.

I ought to go back and try Gnome again since it's been a few years. I'm sure they've gotten better too since I last used them.

+1, also as an alternative to wake on LAN, you could use some kind of hardware method.

The power button to start the PC can be removed/rerouted and hooked to an external device as well, like an Arduino or another computer with GPIO.

I had a computer with a broken power button and to start it I had to touch the two wires from the motherboard power switch connector together to simulate pressing the button. An external device could simulate pressing the power button and turn the computer on from being completely off rather than in a sleep state.

I used to avoid spicy food too. I couldn't handle all of the heat.

Then I came down with COVID, recovered, and later went out to a restaurant called Dave's Hot Chicken with my brother and some friends. We got their Carolina Reaper chicken and I was hooked. Before I knew it I was making my own Carolina Reaper hot sauce and loving the burn.

I'm not sure if it's due to the COVID or just changes in my preferences but the timing sure was coincidental.

On the FPS front, I used to love playing games like Call of Duty and I was pretty good at them, then I moved to slightly slower paced shooters like Battlefield, and now I don't play much FPS games at all.

These days I'm more a fan of slower paced games that make you think a bit. I really enjoyed Factorio and also had a lot of fun with Stormworks. Making microcontrollers and getting to write my own Lua code to power my vehicles is a hell of a lot of fun.

Natively? No, but it is pretty easy to emulate on the Deck. I have successfully run everything from Gameboy to Nintendo DS and Switch games on the Steam Deck.
