Guerrilla plantfare

RIP to the Endangered Species Act

No chance the US government will forego money for their broligarchs because of environmental laws.

But if you really want to overwhelm someone’s property with an unkillable native plant, I’d have to put Virginia creeper forward as a candidate.

When I was 16, I took the city bus to school and we had bus tickets that you could buy at the local corner store. The corner store was a 3 block walk from my house, and I was going there one day to buy a sheet of tickets. As I set out walking, a man in a white van slowed down to whistle/shout sexual things, which is sadly something that teen girls experience regularly - that occurrence was just another usual day.

But then, the man started circling the block over and over as a method to follow me. When I hit the Main Street he pulled into a gas station to pause and see which business would go into. And when I entered the convenience store, he parked the white van in front and stood on the front steps smoking and blocking all exit points.

I asked the convenience store clerk if he had a back exit I could run away through. He did not, but the man went to the front steps and yelled at the man and got him to leave. He parked across the street still watching, so I waited in the store until I saw ANY bus coming to the nearby stop and immediately got on. I took that to a crowded shopping mall and passed enough time until I felt that I could get back to what I was planning to do that day.

Life is disgusting for teen girls.

My eyes!

I am a dentist and any oddly specific instructions I give are usually because some turd has tried it before:

“Prepare your nightguard by running it under warm water. This means a few seconds under the warm water from your tap - do not boil your nightguard in a pot for half an hour, it will be destroyed”

“Do not place a tiny crab fork in your extraction site to remove food debris”

“If you require an adjustment, please return. Your garage power tools are not safe to use on your teeth”

Why they always do this?

1). Society tells women they need to do things “preventively” to avoid becoming hideous goblins in a few years. That’s why you see 22 year olds getting Botox - they have been told they have to start paying NOW to avoid wrinkles

2). Hollywood and entertainment media have normalized unrealistic standards. And you can’t become a newcomer in that space without conforming to the employable look

3). Gossip media loves to pick apart any millimetre of fat (“Is ______ pregnant? Click to see her baby bump!”) or photo taken in bad lighting (“What is wrong with ______ ‘s health, click to see what our medical specialists have to say”). And then they love to chastise people after they give into plastic surgery (“Click to see ______’s terrible nose job, why DID she do it??”)

Billions of dollars are made making women feel shitty. Nobody is going to let that cash go because morals.

40s

Your 40s are where your life situations and choices seem to catch up to you

In your 20s people largely look young and energetic, regardless of whether they exercise, how they eat, whether they smoke, etc.

By the 40s, the smokers look terrible, the people with poor diet and exercise aren’t no longer getting away with it as their metabolism slows, etc. These are the years where you start to see the trajectories diverge.

By the 60s, I see people who are as spry as they ever were, and people who are resigned to the end being near.

Brehh

They aren’t just hanging out. They were driven to extinction by the early 1900s and repopulated into the wild by zoo breeding programs. It’s a textbook bottleneck genetics scenario and very nearly failed had then not found 1-2 wild horses to increase genetic diversity in the 1960s.

Although their population has been increasing successfully, the biggest reason it is working is because they live in areas of Mongolia that are not heavily populated by humans. For the counter example, watch Montana get rid of its re-introduced wolf population. Humans love animals in so far as they don’t inconvenience us. But our societies will happily get rid of animals that get too close, even though we’ve left wildlife with so few places to go.
