Cara is finally taking action against AI-bro scrapers

Reply in thread

Maybe I can shed some light here, but maybe it's also just arguing on the internet... The problem is the following: imagine you're an artist with a physical shop. People go to your shop, they like your art and take pictures of it with their phone. That's the second best thing that can happen to you. (after someone buying your art or hiring you for commissioned work ofc). Bc the artist gets popularity from it. Now imagine somebody sets up a new storefront in front of the artists shop. Shows the artists work, but takes away the name. Says they can commission any piece that's like the artist's work, but for free. The artist makes no revenue anymore. They don't get popularity, bc the new shop shows it's own name and hides the artist. Now the artist goes bankrupt. The fake store front moves over to the next artist's shop and repeats the trick. Until they're all out of work.

Many artists like piracy. Bc it means people talk about your work. It gets shared and makes you popular, which inevitably leads to more buying customers at some point. Ai scrapers though mean you're not gaining in popularity anymore. So you starve, and that's the problem

Drones trespassing in my property

Drone pilot from Germany here, they have no place hovering over your property, more strictly even they're not allowed to fly in any way that allows them to view your garden from above. You can shoot down the drone and it's their problem note that this is in Germany not the US (which surprised me tbh).

However, that said, could be that it's the same pilot again and again, even if it's different birds. Normally they are very cooperative, just ask them to stop and they'll apologize for any inconvenience caused.

A dog approaches you

Storytime,

On my very first time flying I was 18, flew alone from Europe to SE Asia and sat at the airport with hours to spare to make sure I really didn't miss my flight.

Police walk up, one stays away with a dog, the other comes to me. They ask whether I want to participate in their end of shift routine. The dog is super friendly and wagging, the police officers are super chill. They explain that their dog gets to find one positive package a day at least, otherwise he'll be sad. They ask whether they can stuff it in my bag. I'm a bit hesitant but this was still in my home country, not anywhere near a protest, so usually police are very professional.

They hid their package in my backpack. The dog had a blast finding it and got totally excited. I git to participate in the good boy routine of the day 🙂

You did?

That is so incredible. All the dedication and love you put into this really show off what an amazing person you are. If you think that feels pretty good, remember this day in the future whenever you want to achieve something new. And how you got there, all on your own. There won't be much you cannot reach if you put your mind and heart in it. I'm proud of you ❤️

VPN only with ID check in UK?

Don't worry. As we're all law abiding citizens we have nothing to fear from this. This law will only be used to protect children from pedophiles by looking through everyone's laundry (except the epstein league's) and to hunt terrorists (such as the senior citizens supporting Palestine action).

[PSA] Lemmy account deletion is a mess

I don't see why people get so riled up in the comment section of this post.

Is the original post a legit psa? Definitely. Will this become problematic with European law at some point? Well at least it's going to be interesting. Should we care? Seeing as lemmy development is partially funded by the European Commission, definitely! Should we care for altruistic reasons? Also definitely. This place is supposed to be better than the centralized corporate social media to its users, especially also regarding privacy. It's good practice to set up new accounts every once in a while against doxing and seeing how much of the community on lemmy is built by people who are sensitive to their privacy this is sth we should respect.

Should we break down in squabbles here of one instance against another? Please, if I want to hear "all people from place x are bad" I'd just switch on an election debate. Show that your adults. Take your peers and their concerns here seriously. Make something out of it when people raise legit concerns. Thank you bonjour for bringing up this topic.

Schools in Texas are forcing teachers to put the 10 Commandments up…

What disturbs me a bit is that we're in an atheism community and 99% of the answers hinge around 'put up more religion'. Sure, if one then treat them all the same. But then also treat us the same. We don't believe that any of that has a room in a science class room. Where is the respect for our believe?

Hang them up. Then once explain to your students why none of this belongs in a science class room. Ask who would like to have the honors of tearing them down at the end of the class as a proactive lesson on science. Explain to them why this will be a daily ritual now.

This way they're on display every day, so you are strictly speaking compliant. But it makes it very clear that this has no place here. Your students will become more comfortable with the idea of resisting religious BS. Until the day you are fired for it. Then they learn that freedom has a price.

Didn't do any editing, came out of the camera like that. But dji already does quite heavy editing. The problem is that the raw format in which they save the file is AFAIK only fully implemented by Photoshop, so working with jpegs it is...
