Stop the stigma

Reply in thread

Took me a second too, but it's supposed to be a list of descriptors of the woman in the picture. A better way to form it would be "She uses drugs, but she is also a wife, a coworker, and a grandmother." with the last three as bullet points.

The United States loses its status as a liberal democracy: ‘Trump is aiming for a dictatorship’

Let's be honest, the US was no shining beacon of democracy even before Trump. The system was rotten and everyone knew it. However, those with the power to change it have no incentive to do so. It was basically held up because the poeple in charge had some common decency. At that point it's just a matter of time before someone came along that didn't have this basic decency.

I think the people of the UK should take a long, hard look at how the situation has evolved in the US and decide if they want to change their system to avoid having only two parties dominate the political climate. Ironically, being a monarchy means they are probably more resistant to going down the same route, but I suspect the parties are going to get more radical as time goes on and the royals aren't terribly popular these days.

(Opinion to be taken with a pinch of salt. I am no expert in these things and don't live in either country; We've got our own radicalization and issues with our own democracy.)

Anon, the All-Knowing

I doubt he planned to kill the player. He was planning to wait at the finish line to beat us to it. Then he realizes who the final boss is, becomes coinvinced he can't beat it, and reasons that since it is impossible for him it must also be impossible for everyone else. Then he tries to kill us because he is afraid we will prove that it isn't actually impossible. That's my read on it, anyway.

Everything ok Denmark and France?

Reply in thread

Danish has essentially managed to shorten "four and a half score" to what would be equivalent to saying "half to fives" in English. So it would be "two and half to fives" if we were to do the same in English. (This is also kinda similar to how the clock is read. 8:30 would be "half to nine" rather than "half past eight", which is used in English.)

The difference between RAW and RAI

This doesn't really work as far as I can tell, RAW or RAI. While it is the case that in theory a Melee Attack with a Heavy Ranged Weapon would satisfy both criteria, there is no weapon that can normally perform such an attack, as far as I'm aware. Using a Heavy Crossbow or a Longbow to make a Melee Attack would be attacking with an Improvised Melee Weapon, which is both not a Ranged Weapon and does not have the Heavy property, so neither Feat would be useful.

If we are being generous we could say that attacking with a Heavy Crossbow would be like a Club and a Longbow would be like a Staff, and per the Improvised Weapons rules we could use those weapon stats for our Improvised Weapon, however, note that neither of these have the Heavy property, so you would be unable to use either Feat in this case as well. (The Heavy property, particularly on Ranged Weapons, seems to be not about the weight of the weapon (an intrinsic property of the thing), but about the strength required to attack with such a weapon in it's intended manner. In this way it would make sense that neither Feat would work.)

Guild Wars 3 | Announcement Trailer

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. I loved GW2, even though I haven't kept up with it in a while, so I'm interested to see what they are planning for the sequel. Orr also seems like a fun setting. I live the descriptions in GW2 of Orr pre-sinking. (Also, the gods (presumably) saying "we promise you magic" is funny, considering how horribly that ends in this case.)

However, GW2 is dripping in style, and I love the painterly style it has. I'm not seeing that same style in this trailer. It looks kinda generic, tbh. (The design of the mount is stellar, though.)

Also, being set in the past means that the Sylvari don't exist yet, and the Charr are still the "great enemy", so those two are out. We seem to have gained Kodan as a playable race, though (probably means no Norn as well, since they would have quite a bit of overlap). Also, this seemed like the perfect chance to give the people the Tengu they have wanted, but playable Tengu remains a dream, it seems.

Lords of the Fallen publisher embraces fear of the DEI boogeyman, says it will not include 'any social or political agendas' in its games

Reply in thread

Yeah, correct guess. In the game you kill the leader of the dominant religion (based on martyrdom and sacrifice) after they have refused to take action against the corruption in their own ranks, and allowed atrocities to be committed in the name of religion. Turns out (spoilers) that the head of the religion is also corrupt. Not really subtle, is it?

How do people in Germany or any other 24 hour format country tell the time?

It depends. You might say something like "I've got a meeting from 12 to 14", which is perfectly natural. But also a lot of the time you might just say "I go to bed at 9" because the context makes it obvious that you mean 9 in the evening. Most people don't go to bed in the morning. Unless you do, but then you would probably give context "I'm going to bed at 9 in the morning, because I work nights", for example.

It's a character from Attack on Titan. Iirc the character is called Sasha and she gets shouted at for eating a potato during a military drill. Her response is to offer the drill sergeant part of the potato. (Been a while since I watched AoT)
