In the game you kill the leader of the dominant religion (based on martyrdom and sacrifice) after they have refused to take action against the corruption in their own ranks, and allowed atrocities to be committed in the name of religion. Turns out (spoilers) that the head of the religion is also corrupt. Not really subtle, is it?

You're almost certainly joking but also like .. yeah everything has political subtext. A lot of Internet duds are just too stupid to read it.

I think most of the people mad on the Internet about this kind of thing couldn't pass 12th grade English, and certainly not like a 200 level English Literature course.

Besides that "one weird trick", the other is to just include a diverse sets of people/cultures in your game. There's no need to push their agendas, just don't misrepresent them. That's actually what they're asking for, even. It's a lot more effective, IMO.

Trolls will still complain your game is woke, but they won't have any teeth.

I hate political games. That's why my favourite is Fallout New Vegas, no woke politics, just a good, simple tale about a man delivering a package.

The way I view it intentionally avoiding social and political commentary is in itself social and political commentary.

Let's be honest, the companies allowed inclusion of the DEI and social/political commentary because they didn't think it mattered not becuase they actually care about such issues. Now they think it might affect the bottom line they don't want their devs doing it anymore. But they were hardly marketing and selling games based on this stuff.

Even if it’s relevant and well written, if its agenda is something like “white race is best race” or “trans people are insane”, then I don’t care, it’s shit. Then again, people who think that don’t usually make good art. Some have in the past, like JK Rowling, but what has she done lately? She’s a has been.

Young men have an absurd amount of cultural attention right now. It's mainly that cohort swinging hard to the right. Some others are even swinging left.

Yall can dislike all you want, but we all know a lot of people out there are not fans of DEI ideology. You can say they are wrong, you can say they are immoral, but that doesn't change the fact people have started to have serious negative feelings towards DEI stuff - and companies are noticing it.

Companies want money, they don't give a shit about DEI. They only have a shit about it when it was beneficial to them and their pocket. DEI went hard when it used to pump their stock cause ESG and shit - it ain't like that no more. People are starting to dislike it and it's only gonna get more intense.

As time goes on DEI will be affecting company earnings negatively more and more - and thus they will stop the DEI stuff. SIMPLE.

It's true and we all know it. Love or hate DEI - it's increasingly declining, and the simple reason is - common man ain't a fan of it.
