Why is that the Normies had shifted from "I have nothing to hide" to "Privacy is not real"???
A lot of people have just accepted surviellance for convienience.
People close to me get TSA precheck even though it requires fingerprinting, because "the government already has your fingerprints"
But if they did, why would they need to ask your for them?

I need help advocating for privacy in my HOA, which wants to set up cameras in common areas

Ugh I would have said this too, but the resident pushing for the cameras is offering to pay out of pocket

Goodbye device ownership, and the last vestiges of free speech will die with this bill as well.

This is just the first step. Soon you'll need a government ID to operate your network card, then they'll control what you post, the thoughts you can have.
Try thinking for yourself while you still can.

OpenAI admits responsibility for HuggingFace Attack - an agent from an internal evaluation is reportedly the cause
Reply in thread
Probably the gleeful, in-depth detailing of "how" it was capable of a cyber attack. Probably more like "we used a pre-prod model to help us execute a cyber attack against our competitor" I really don't buy thatbit broke out of a sandbox at all. Not when the claim is coming from openai and they're the only ones who can corraborate.

It just takes time. More passionate posters will come. Reddit is mostly ai-generated at this point.
I wish more technically focused communities had a real home here. I'll google something, and see that the project I'm working on has a dedicated subreddit where someone asked my question. Wish I could see lemmy in my search results.

XrossMediaBar Desktop Environment?
Reply in thread
For a media UI, it was remarkably confident in itself. "Hey, I know I'm not showing you immediately what you want to see right now, but just hang tight and look at the beautiful background while you navigate. Look at these elegant Frutiger metro icons. Listen to the hearty clicks the bar makes as you flip through the categories. Don't worry, the joystick maps right onto the bar movement. You already know what you're doing."
Now it seems like UI's are embarressed to be on the screen at all. "oh, uh, I bet you wanted to see a picture of your game right? Or... netflix? Or... The store or something? Umm. Let me just give you all of your options in an order I think will be your 'favorite'"

What do you think of anarchism?
A lot of people think it means total chaos, but it really just means an opposition to hierarchy.
People living comfortable lives will rationalize any critique of the system away, even if that comfort is built upon emiseration and exploitation.

Massive RSA Encryption Flaw Exposes Millions Of IoT Devices To Attack
I'm not surprised. RSA is deprecated as a public key method in openssh. There's no reiable implementation anywhere. Seems like IoT manufacturers consider security as an afterthought. Anyone pushing for anything other than ed25519 just wants to decrease your security footing

You're right. People asking for a comprimise 160 years too late forget the missouri compromise, bleeding kansas, the Lecompton crisis and John Brown's raids. Slavery and slave states had to continually expand in order to remain economically viable, there was no compromise that slave states could accept, which is why war was necessary. James Buchanon was a Democrat who represented Southern interests, he could not find a compromise because the South could not accept any compromise and remain competitive with the North.
The reason Buchanon is the worst President is because he sees the Civil War coming and tries to set up a Southern victory during his administration.
