One of the most stressful times I've ever had at a job was when I was disassembling old tech to remove hard drives and batteries like this one, particularly when my boss wouldn't understand that inflated batteries are a huge fire risk and are very much pressure sensitive.

After hearing all of that he picked one up as if it were some phone and tossed it around in his hands looking at it all over meanwhile I'm trying to simultaneously tell him to stop that immediately because of the fire risk I just told him about and simultaneously create distance between us in case it does go off.

Knowing what I know now it would have been very fitting if it popped on him, injured by his own stupidity and inability to listen when people are telling him what to do or what not to do. Eventually he put it down then I had another stressful month or so waiting for a proper disposal method to be implemented.

In my experience, microcenter doesn't have much in the way of component level stuff. All I've ever seen at my local store and on their website all seems like stuff just meant for breadboarding small circuits, usually for working with an RPi or Arduino. I've never seen them carry surface mount components, but you may have better luck than me.

There are plenty of sites which carry plenty of retro game repair components which should include those battery slots.

I've never understood why it is that so many companies make trying to get proper tools to actually do the job you were hired to do is like pulling teeth. That same job I mentioned never wanted to buy me a proper screwdriver set because we had a lot of random junk coming through which could potentially include screwdrivers.

Convincing management took showing them how many computers I had to pass on because the random screwdrivers I can find will basically never include the dozen or so sizes of torx bits, triangle bits, square bits, or random other security bits that those computer used.

My proposed solution was to get one nice screwdriver with a nice varied set of bits meant for computers so that this one purchase can cover as many computers as possible and do it well. The set that I proposed would include 100 or so bits (overkill, but they're not expensive so why not), would include a nice screwdriver that could reach deep into weird spaces, and would cost about $30-$40. The benefit would be that it would allow me to work on hundreds of dollars of machines every day that were otherwise being wasted.

After literally months of me asking about it on the regular, they came back with a $10 harbor freight ratcheting screwdriver with 10-20 bits that was too bulky to get recessed screws.

The size you need is entirely dependent on the game. Pokemon Red and Blue both use CR2025's, whereas Pokemon Yellow uses a CR1616. GBA games often use flash memory instead of SRAM so they don't usually need their batteries changed for the actual saves, but usually for an RTC if the game has one.

In my personal experience local stores usually have batteries in the right sizes, but I've never seen them have tabbed batteries.

Especially these days with what basic human rights have been made political, politics is probably pretty high up there on my list of reasons I'd see in why not to associate with someone.

To a sensible person it wouldn't be a daily driver. I've seen some people who are not sensible on my daily commute.

Tbh I also completely missed it. This post was the first I heard about it. How long was it going on?

One of my jobs I was working next to an older man who didn't believe in climate change because "they told us dinosaurs had scales and now they're saying they have feathers!" He also once told me to fix an electrical component by "spraying WD40 on it" as if the electrons just needed some lubrication before they'd start moving again.

Both of those incidents helped me to realize who not to go to for help with that job and shortly afterwards he was let go after having an entire week with no work completed.

There was some stealth game I was trying out that did this. Before you start the game, it's mandatory to set the brightness level so one logo is barely visible. I figure since it's a stealth game I might as well just so I can see what areas are supposed to be light and what areas are supposed to be dark. Get into the game, soon find some guards and a nearby alcove in total darkness so naturally I dash over to hide before they notice me. The guards walk by and immediately see through the dark to spot me as if they had night vision goggles.

I stopped playing the game not long after because there were a lot of things about the game I really didn't like, but those first few minutes were a tone setter for me. To this day I still wonder why the devs felt it was so important to make sure some things were dark enough to not be visible to the player if everything was going to be visible to the NPCs.

It's not uncommon for people to make games for fun and to not get as much money as possible from them. It's less common for companies and studios to not try to get as much money as possible from games, even less common for them to make games purely for fun.

Because generating fun doesn't pay bills.

On top of this, don't assume someone's tech literate just because they're in a certain field. It took me seeing first hand at a previous job how the IT techs did their job to realize why we ran into so many issues.

We were having some software installed on every computer which apparently had to be installed via PowerShell. While watching our usual IT tech go through the steps on the machine next to me, I offered to help him get this job done faster by starting it up on my machine then he could run his credentials whenever the prompts came up. He knew I was computer literate since we had talked about tech stuff and about how I was at the time trying to get a job in IT, so he gave me a copy of the .txt file with all the instructions and commands to run.

In the file was an 11 step process written by the director of the IT department explaining how to open PowerShell, copy the command below, and run the command. 3 of the instructions were to highlight the command (between the quotation marks without including the quotation marks), right click the highlighted portion, then click on "Copy".

The tech didn't believe that I had actually copied the command when I just did Ctrl+C, so he specifically stopped me to tell me to right click the command. I told him that it was copied already with Ctrl+C, and he told me, "No, it won't work if you don't do the right click."

I also found out later that said IT director didn't seem to be aware that there were multiple types of USB cables. He was setting something up in my boss's office and sent someone to ask for "a USB cable." Said person knew I had a bunch of cables at my desk as part of my work at the time so they relayed the request for "a USB cable." I asked them, "What kind? USB C to C? A to C? Micro? Mini?" "Idk, they just said 'a USB cable.'"

I think, "fair enough, my coworker isn't very tech literate so I'll just ask the man myself." I bring over an assortment of cables and walk to the office with my coworker. Director see my coworker with me now next to them and ask me for "a USB cable." "What kind?" "Just a regular USB cable, if you have one." I show him my bundle of about 6-10 assorted cables, explain that I have a variety, see that he's working on a small printer/scanner, and offer him one. "Would a type 3.0 USB A to B cable work?" "What? No, I just need a regular USB cable." I show him the A to B cable and he responds "oh yeah, that's what I was saying. A regular USB cable."

Better Call Saul. I liked Saul in Breaking Bad and learning more about him and his past was great, but I hated knowing how low he has to be by the end for Breaking Bad to make sense. The higher he climbed in the show, the more of a tragedy it became. Just had to put it down some time near the end of Part 2 when he started doing stuff to his brother.

On the one hand I do still want to know what happens to his brother, but on the other hand I hate watching a car crash I know is about to happen before its shown the first signs of drifting into the wrong lane and (mentally) shouting at the screen to stop making stupid decisions.

Worth mentioning that although I acknowledge Breaking Bad would not really happen at all if not for Walter and his pride, but I still despise how much he lets his pride destroy him over and over again. As such I also don't particularly care for the later seasons of Breaking Bad, but at least with those I didn't really know the end so I didn't know how much it was going to keep going downhill beforehand. Oddly enough for this reason I feel like I may have enjoyed Better Call Saul more before having watched Breaking Bad.

Not everyone in the US has health insurance or (more importantly) the same quality of health insurance. Insurers here have the final say on whether they'll cover certain treatments, medicines, procedures, doctors, practices, etc. as well as how much they'll cover, how much they'll charge the patient, or how much any use of the insurance will affect the price of said insurance going forward. Insurance often prefers you work with doctors, practices, facilities, etc. within their own list of approved doctors, practices, etc. and going outside of that list for any reason may cause you to have to pay for any goods or services out of pocket. Then lastly you have to remember that both health insurance as well as hospitals and clinics are generally for profit businesses trying to maximize profit and minimize costs.

And the little cherry on top of the whole situation is we're in a political landscape where even having universal access to healthcare is labeled as communist/socialist by many in a derogatory way.
