Your public toilets are not private. There should never be a gap around the door. The height should be above what any reasonable person would grow to, and the lower height of the door should hide the person's feet on the toilet unless you crouch down. It's weird and very off putting to use one

We split an account between 4 households, paying a quarter each. When the crackdown happened, 2 including my house cancelled and the 3rd paid for the extra user. So they halved their users from our account, but increased revenue anyway. Seems like a win for them.

Maybe it's different in the USA, but I've travelled a lot and don't think I ever remember a long haul flight without multiple babies and young children. It's just a fact of travelling.

I recently did a 16hr flight solo and the other 3 seats in my row of 4 were parents and a toddler.

That's just part of flying and you should plan for it (noise cancelling headphones, sleeping tablets, ear plugs).

My mother had breast cancer. I couldn't get a test to see if it was the inheritable one because then I would have to disclose it as pre-existing for the rest of my life. (For the record my mom took the genetic test and it was negative).

This is just one example.

What if in future, your insurance price depended on an inheritable diseases DNA clearance. You could refuse but then it would be $$$$$. What if my life insurance refused to pay upon my death because I had knowledge of a gene that causes cancer when I took out the policy?

Wow. Non American here. My kid regularly eats while I shop. I just bring empty packets to register for them to scan and they normally throw them out for me. No problem. Like zero problem.

I don't even think our police would show up if they were called. They take 3hrs to turn up to a home invasion, so I doubt they'd show up for a banana. This is a crazy level of policing.

Genuine question. GPs complain about the complexity of cases increasing and therefore higher Medicare rates should apply. While I completely agree with this (my GP 1000% needs to be paid more), shouldn't that mean that they like low complexity visits like this? Bring someone in, sign med cert, you are on your way. They have probably spent 5-10mins of a 15min appointment and can use that time to catch up.

I don't know what they call it where you are from but here light rail is trams. Similar to San Francisco cable cars.

When I was on TOS (the other site) there was a bunch of active parenting forums. Even down to the specific month and year your child was born. I've missed that community with other parents here. Does it exist? I will settle for more general if there's activity.

Also any active finance / FIRE communities here?

Pets to your kid I can understand. My cats are on the way out (one passed this year and the other is 16 and not in good health).

My kid is already asking for a dog. I know if I gift a dog it's actually on me to look after it. Gifting to someone who isn't a minor or outside your household though? That's a shitty move

I have a kid. I love my kid. There's also a looooooooot more sacrifice involved than I was expecting.

Not so much the money, but time and effort. Today I wanted to leave the park and go the grocery store for ONE thing before dinner. Cue negotiations to leave the park. 10mons to walk 100 yards. Issues around refusing to use the toilet before we go (young kid and car rides). Not wanting to get out of the car at the store. I could go on. Everything is just a whole fucking ordeal. Pre kid I would have got in my car, gotten the item and come home. 15mins tops. This took 1.5hrs.

I love my kid. I'm glad we had a kid. But I do not see everyone being suited to being a parent. And no one should be forced or pressured to be one.

That's my personal opinion though.

Our pickup, you can push the gear stick left and it becomes basically manual with no clutch. You tell it to change gears and it will except when it says "no" ie high speeds and you ask to change down a gear when it's high revs in current gear, it beeps at you and won't change.

We've found that more than adequate for towing a 19ft caravan.
