Literally got a full screen pop up in the middle of work reminding me, that I, in fact, can't upgrade to Windows 11. Like no shit, I turned TPM off for that very reason. You'd think Microsoft would expect me to know at this point as this was the upteenth reminder hijacking my entire screen. I'm sure I'll get more of them.

There's an FPGA handheld that looks perfect for playing GBA, but it's still in the crowdfunding phase

Were it a shithead company like Ubisoft running a crowdfunding campaign, I would heartily agree. But using crowd sourcing for its intended purpose, I'd say it's less so. Not everyone can just go out and get a loan for $100K to manufacture an open-source handheld. No bank is signing up for that. Really, I'd be a lot more skeptical if they didn't already have a manu lined up. Sure, crowdsourcing can be risky to back, but I've also bought all kinds of stuff off the shelf that was absolute junk at the end of the day. Purchasing things comes with risks, some more than others. You just gotta weigh if the purchase is a risk you're willing to take.

Is there something like LinkedIn, but without big tech involvement, no data collection, no ads, open source, and preferably decentralized (maybe Fediverse or even P2P)?

You'll never get the recruiters to participate, because their companies will never let them. LinkedIn is corpo hive-mind central, friendly to corpos first and foremost. What you're proposing wouldn't be friendly to corpos, inherently, so they'll never join, and they hold the strings because they are the ones with jobs to offer.

You're literally asking how to take the corporatism out of LinkedIn when that is precisely what allows it to exist. Why would any company participate on a platform that gives workers the advantage? Hint, they won't.

Just converted their Chromebook over to an AMD system running Fedora. Battery life is what you make it. If you run the processor on performance with the screen brightness high, yeah, it can go quickly. But I can also get a full work day out of it no problem, you just have to keep things in perspective. Plus, you can literally swap to a bigger battery. What other laptop can do that?

Build quality is the same as any other Linux laptop; that is to say, it doesn't use the fanciest metals; the aluminum is cheap, but so is System76's metal, which is what it is when you're keeping costs down for customized laptops. Don't drop your laptop; you'll be fine.

Ports are a little limited, but nothing out of the norm for smaller laptops either. You do have the option to swap ports at any time, so there is plenty of versatility you can literally carry with you. Hell, don't MacBooks only have two ports? Things could be much worse.

The truth is, there is no perfect Linux laptop. Either the Framework appeals, or it doesn't. Trust that the same way you're nitpicking Framework could be done to any brand. Find the one you like, and go with it. For some of us, that's Framework, as it gets closer to our ideal than any other, which is kinda what using Linux is all about: fulfilling our personal ideals.

Altair and Altair-X round 2 started today, prob my favorite split ortho in recent memory

Reply in thread

Nope, I wrote the article and own the site. There are zero ads on the site, zero affiliation, nothing is monetized, zero data is tracked. I simply like the keyboard having built one from the last group buy, that I purchased myself.

That's my video for a sound test (the video isn't monetized either), I wanted to share how it sounds and looks in celebration of a new group buy, as it is a very good split ortho. I say this as someone who owns and built over 50 high end mechanical keyboards over the last 8 years. I paid for my knowledge and then some. I got a lot of splits, the Altair is up there right at the top.

Like seriously, you see any other sites writing this in depth while recording their own videos about $300 niche high end keebs? You wanna know why? There's no money in it because you can't affiliate this stuff. Why do you think every list of best keyboard is all slop off the shelf available on Amazon? Plus this sub is tiny and certainly doesn't push any traffic, I only posted here because of the shared interest.

It's all about the screen ratio. The Pocket is 10:9, same as the original Game Boy. This way all Game Boy and Game Boy Color games perfectly fit the screen. The Pocket can play GBA, sure, but GBA was 3:2, so it's heavily letterboxed on the Pocket. The Game Bub is a 3:2 screen, while using similar underlying tech of FPGA. Basically, the Game Bub is the right landscape layout and right screen ratio to best play GBA games.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition – Launch Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2

30fps, still no mods, still buggy as all fuck without any means to fix those bugs, and now with horrible input lag added on top.

Started a new game, the dragon wouldn't break the wall in the tower at the very start. Had to start again from an auto save made after character creation. Even the second time the dragon barely broke the wall to get out of the tower.

They may have touched up a few things for Switch 2, it's hard to tell, but so far it seems like they added 1080p support to the Switch 1 version and called it a day. How the fuck aren't mods supported for Switch 2, does this mean Fallout won't have any either?

And yeah, this was never gonna play at 60fps at 1080p. Even the ROG Ally X can't hold the game at a stable 60 at 1080. Bethesda would have to optimize the game, and clearly that ain't happening. The horrendous input lag clearly shows nobody tested this shit.
