You can disable the new ui. Go to about:config and set "browser.nova.enabled" to false. Not sure if it'll fix the lagging tho since it might be caused by something else that came with the update.

[Discussion] What anime became the blueprint for future works?

Reply in thread

AoT itself is inspired by muv luv, which afaik founded the whole "humanity on the brink of extinction fighting against some enemy" concept. But while AoT is the first anime of a story like that to my knowledge, I also can't really think of another anime with that concept outside of 86 (i will not acknowledge the existence of the horrendous muv luv adaptation that came out a few years ago, plus it wouldn't make sense to include as something AoT inspired anyway).

You're thinking of net profit margin. Gross profit margin will vary by item but 30% is a pretty normal amt there.

The most specific number I could find is best buy averaging 22-23%. Which is a bit lower but same ballpark.

Lies you were told as a kid?

Reply in thread

It's probably true on average. As you get older, chances are some of the things you fought for when you were younger are now the new normal, and further change is something you're more skeptical about.

But definitely not something that's going to apply to every individual, plus when the world is mostly regressing as it is right now, the whole effect should disappear.

There are definitely horror movies/stories that will make me scared of whatever boogeyman is in the movie jumping out at me. And those aren't the jumpscare ones. It even happens with ones that are more on the funny side (fucking the mist did this for a short period of time after and i was kinda just laughing at it all the way even if it was trying to be serious)

That's why I say I don't like horror movies far more than the cheap jumpscare ones being annoying. Though also pure gorefests never even registered as horror for me, even if I think they're kinda boring.

But then I've also found that I really like psychological horror actually because it is in fact not scary at all outside of caring for the characters and very easy for me to seperate.

Two-thirds of global heating caused by richest 10%, study suggests

Reply in thread

Yeah, what people forget is that even average americans (and central/northern europeans and some other plaves) are quite wealthy from a global perspective. Many people on lemmy, self included, are in that global 10%.

And many of those emissions aren't something you can just avoid either, they often come as a result of being a user of local infrastructure etc.

"I don't like Muslims" is a valid steam review according to Valve

Based dev and I wishlistrd that game because it looks fun and I want to support them for the response alone, but I think I kind of agree with that decision, or can at least see where it's coming from. Disliking a game for its political message seems entirely valid to me, if someone made an otherwise amazing game but the message is "hitler was great actually", I'd like to be able to negatively review that. And since it's not review bombing but actual individual idiots, it shouldn't have a big impact wrt to the ratio. If anything I read a review like that and become more interested in the game. Allowing it at least keeps them honest.

Though "it has muslims" as a negative review reason still seems like it should be removed just for being racist (or if i were to give the reviewer way more benefit of the doubt than they deserve, sounding racist. I guess in theory they could just not like religions in games, but let's be real they'd love if it were christians instead).

It's insane. Of course we can't just jail a corporation and just shutting them down forcibly would cause more problems than it solves, but really that fine needs to be at least 50 times as high. Probably 100 times. Something that hurts, a lot. Not enough to outright bankrupt them, but enough to do that if it happens again any time soon. Their yearly revenue is 72 billion. This is the equivalent of someone making 50k a year paying a $200 fine for gross negligience that killed people. What the fuck?

Fox viewers STILL imagine that foreign exporters will simply reduce their profit margins to 0, or even go into debt, for the privilege of selling trinkets to Americans.

The economy of US propaganda where the US is so strong and either loved or feared and such an important market that everyone from all other countries will bow to them and ignore making a profit to appease the mighty Murica, because they are simply the greatest in the world.

Not to be confused with reality, where most of the world hates the US.

Yeah, these days when I read anything about antisemitic crime I always have to check if it'a actually people being racist or if someone just said israel bad. And of course israel doing their genocide is also driving up actual antisemitic crimes, because plenty of people think that israel=all jews, and understandably people are angry so they look for a "deserving" target. Which israel is also not helping with since their constant cries of antisemitism are implying exactly that.

And in reality it's not even all israelis (not like most people living there these days chose it), and while far too many seem to support the genocide, they're also under heavy propaganda.

The highest GDPR fine was 1.2 billion. As far as I know nothing is stopping the EU from imposing higher and higher fines with continued breach of guidelines there, and I would expect these fair market regulations to work similarly.

Also for reference, that fine was against meta, who had 34 billion in revenue in 2023. So that fine cost them around 3% of their global revenue, which I'm sure is tolerable, but definitely approaching the point of hurting.

Hotel rule

Yea, they just have to enforce it, not make sensible rules. Just let them do their jobs in peace and go petition the relevant aviation authorities if it bothers you that much.
