GrapheneOS is building its own RCS support to cut Google Messages out of the picture

Telegram is worse than even Whatsapp, since it's not even pretending to be end to end encrypted.
The real choice is signal or threema.

48,000 files deleted in 103 seconds: Claude Code just destroyed a developer’s work at the click of a button, and it shows why everyone should be careful around AI agents
Reply in thread
A single developer with that many files? Those are clearly AI generated, so not their work anyways. 🤷♂️

Even that is just ridiculous when it's only the US government.

If you use something Android based for watching YouTube on the TV (some TVs, fireTV stick, etc.), you can: https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube?tab=readme-ov-file
I haven't watched a single Ad on YouTube on TV (SmartTube), mobile (ReVanced), or PC (Firefox + uBlock origin) since it became unbearable... five years ago or so?

Makes total sense to me
This argument is extremely disingenuous. The Republicans claim that a president has immunity unless investigated and impeached by Congress. And this is exactly what they are fruitlessly flailing around, trying to do. So this is not the gotcha the meme claims it is.

Seemingly one of the contributors has visited a disputed region and logged into GitHub from there. By law (export controls) Microsoft must not provide service to that place. So some automatism flagged the account and also the organic maps repo. So far so normal. But either Microsoft dragged it's feet in communicating and resolving the issue or the organic maps team was not doing their part in the process. Doesn't matter, the outcome is still worth it.

Firefox 115 released

Makes sense. You don't want Addons to navigate to the addons page and install other addons. You also don't want to give them access to the firefox sync data through your account to do the same from that end.

Tesla opened Cybertruck trade-ins, and the numbers aren’t pretty
Reply in thread
The issue isn't the numbers. The issue is that Musk previously claimed Teslas would retain value and would even gain value with new releases of auto pilot. With these expectations in mind, the numbers must look abyssal to Tesla fans.

It’s finally here: Porsche puts wireless EV charging into production
Reply in thread
10% is so low, that I doubt it's factual. For comparison, QI charging loses 20-30% in addition to what wired chargers lose. Here is an article with cited studies: https://www.engadget.com/2200186/wireless-charging-wastes-electricity-why/
Moral of the story: plugging the phone in is worth it in the long run.

Revenge and justice are two separate things and only one of those brings humanity forward. The whataboutism is pretty dangerous when it comes to justifying the former.

Small modular nuclear reactors get a reality check in new report
Reply in thread
Extremely cheap per kilowatt? Every statistic out there that I've seen and that includes government funding, as well as construction and deconstruction costs, paints a different picture. Nuclear is only competitive with coal or the relatively underdeveloped solar thermal.
In 2017 the US EIA published figures for the average levelized costs per unit of output (LCOE) for generating technologies to be brought online in 2022, as modelled for its Annual Energy Outlook. These show: advanced nuclear, 9.9 ¢/kWh; natural gas, 5.7-10.9 ¢/kWh (depending on technology); and coal with 90% carbon sequestration, 12.3 ¢/kWh (rising to 14 ¢/kWh at 30%). Among the non-dispatchable technologies, LCOE estimates vary widely: wind onshore, 5.2 ¢/kWh; solar PV, 6.7 ¢/kWh; offshore wind, 14.6 ¢/kWh; and solar thermal, 18.4 ¢/kWh.

That's what containers are for. Fucking up the container won't fuck up the host. That was the best decision in self hosting I've done. Even that one virtual machine feels weird and uncomfortably legacy now but it needs to interact with hardware in a certain way that just won't fully work with docker.

Modern browsers happily show you the actual characters, while sending their encoded entities to the server. So, from a user perspective there is no ASCII limitation. Case in point: söhne.at (just some random website, I have no idea what they are or if they are legitimate)
