"Antiwoke" magazin on kbin.social posting bullshit like "how to end Wokeness" and "Time to reject the extrem trans lobby harming our society" How to report ? he is the moderator of that magazin.

Reply in thread

kbin.social administration controls only what is published on kbin.social, and what content from elsewhere kbin.social users can see. An user banned from kbin.social can make another account, on another site and start recreate there his banned community. kbin.social will be able to ban this remote user and remote community, but this restricts only what kbin.social users can see.

Exactly the same for another /kbin or lemmy site - just replace the domain name accordingly.

What chmod step?

When I clicked on new app image, the OS told me, that program /name of app/ will be launched, I clicked "Continue" and it runs! No meddling with "chmod" or anything like that.

Announcing Ibis, the federated Wikipedia Alternative

Wikipedia is not a Big Tech nor a commercial enterprise prone to enshittification nor it profits from surveillance capitalism. We don't need another, competing, universal source of enclopedical information. Wikipedia, on contrary to X, Reddit, Facebook, etc. is not going anywhere. Any self-styled Wikipedia alternative ended up dead, thematic, or biased by design.

However there are many thematical and fan wikis hosted on Fandom, which itself is a commercial company and there were already some contoversies concerning it. Wikis on Fandom are very resource-intensive compared to Wikipedia or independent thematical wikis.

Ability to edit at several wikis from the same account without being tied to Fandom could be one of things that Ibis offers and could benefit independent wiki sites.

And of course, MediaWiki is free software and federation could be added as a functionality.

What are some of the more novel forms of fediverse software?

Socialhome with its tiled display of posts
Bonfire, which is modular, and will be available in many flavours (for Open Science, organisations or simply a social network)
Mobilizon - events and groups.
Gancio - events, published anonymously. Instance can be followed from Fediverse as an account.
Bookwyrm for books
Postmarks - a federated bookmarking website
Funkwhale - for uploading and listening to music
Castopod - Wordpress but for podcasting?
Misskey and its forks - more than Twitter emulation - includes emoji reactions and animated text!

Authorized Fetch Circumvented by Alt-Right Developers

Reply in thread

Authorised Fetch existed long before Instagram Threads. When it is turned on, an instance will require any other server to sign their request to fetch any post. This prevents "leaking" of posts via ActivityPub to blocked instances.

This setting is turned off by default, because some software are incompatible with it (like /kbin, Pixelfed before June 2023, maybe Lemmy too), because it makes server load higher, and it may make some replies missing (at least on microblogging side).

Why is firefox losing market share? Why don't more people use Firefox?

I do not see any killer feature of Firefox right now. Even the Mozilla's official browser comparison site indicates Microsoft Edge being on par with Firefox, based on Mozilla's own criteria!
This will change in the future. Firefox will be the only major web browser on Android with full-fledged addon support.
I am already using some extensions on Vivaldi (like Consent-o-Matic, some transliteration addons), but this could make me switch to Firefox.

So blimey - what hppened there?

This time, another official /kbin server, in Polish (karab.in) was working during all the kbin.social's sleep.

I will repost my comment from https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/838165/What-s-going-on-with-kbin-social

This time is probably unrelated to @ernest's supposed inactivity. Actually, his another /kbin server, https://karab.in has been brought back on 15 of February.

Why not kbin.social? Well, this server is co-administered by FTdL (Technology for People Foundation) (https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/177112).

Entire FTdL infrastructure was down from 16 o'clock in Cracow to this morning.
