Oh boy. My current employer had an app built inhouse over 18 months I think. Nobody cared to be involved in the reviews providing nothing more than "good good" until the thing was done. Then suddenly everything was "ugly and not what they wanted". An external company was hired who promised to rebuild it from scratch in 3 months. The internal devs were shuffled around, many quit. 2 years later the external company finally releases version 1 and celebrates themselves as absolute heroes. The were then set to work on taking over the current project the internal team had been working on... They again changed everything and made pretty much everyone on the team leave. That was another 2 years ago and they are getting close to release which no doubt will be celebrated again.

Luckily my work is a whole lot more specialized and the consultants we work with are actually competent and not greedy.

It's funny how with certain folks its always the fighting back that's the escalation, never the original aggression...

• Chinese Company: You have 2 cows. You have 300 people milking them. You claim full employment and max bovine productivity. You arrest the journalist who reported the real situation.

Realistisch sehe ich das auch so. Ein paar Tage Blackout tut zwar kurzfristig weh aber wenn die Nutzer alle zurückkommen, ändert das gar nix.

Ich persönlich sah diese Gelegenheit als Anreiz mich mehr mit Alternativen Netzwerken zu beschäftigen. Über Jahre haben sich die grossen Spieler alleinige Vorherrschaft über unser digitales Leben erarbeitet und jetzt kommt die Rechnung (für uns). Und ich hab langsam die Schnauze voll.

Because companies don't want money. They don't want a lot of money. They want ALL the money. If another company has a feature that people like and use, then this company wants that money as well. So they either buy that other company or copy and push the feature in the hopes of converting users.

This is why YouTube has these asinine shorts shoved into your layout. They know YT users don't want them. This is why you can't disable them. They know that another company makes money with shorts and they want it - so YOU are gonna use them goddammit.

A third party YouTube app doesn't have to show these shorts so YT wouldn't be able to pressure their users into consuming that format.

Nah. I don't see Russia as absolute evil. And there are plenty of means the west does not consider justified. Nobody I know falls into either of these categories.

I don't want Ukraine to kill poor Russian sods but as long as Russia kills poor Ukrainian sods I think it's only fair if they get to shoot back.
