Women-only museum becomes a toilet to keep men out
Reply in thread
I didn't read into this particular issue, but I know the museum in question, have been there a couple times, so some context:
So it doesn't surprise me at all that the museum is trying to be women only, but I really doubt it will be permanent, and I suspect that the strong public reactions is exactly the point.

You really went looking for something to hate on there didn't you. That is the only sentence in the whole article that even mentions power consumption, all the other arguments both fit and against are for a variety of other topics.
It seems to be that you are more likely caught up in some kind of movement if one argument from one person is enough for you to label everyone there luddites

I read it more as an answer to people who might "wish justice" to people making false accusations. LTT seem to me to be saying that the law is probably on their side, but that they are willingly choosing not to follow through.
Had they not mentioned this, it might leave many people wondering?
Just my take on it.

Vegans of Lemmy, would you eat lab-grown meat?
I've been vegetarian my whole life and vegan for ~4 years or so, and I would definitely eat lab grown meat (assuming the conditions you stated).
I almost certainly wouldn't eat it often but there is sooo many cultural dishes I haven't ever tried due to them containing meat, which I would love to try sometime.
Admittedly I expect that most things I would not end up liking, but the ability to try would be really nice.

Pick 3 Rules
Why is $20 even in consideration with the not needing sleep pill. Hell I'd probably choose the not need sleep pill over $20 million. It's effectivity massively increasing your lifespan, but without making you outlive everyone you know

Advise sons too. If marriage is going to be weaponised then it should be denormalised.

Why are neurotypicals in charge of making up the social rules? They're not even very good at it.
I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but I think it is misleading for you to think of these things as "rules". Calling them rules implies that people know what they are, and try to abide by them. But I don't think thats whats happening.
Since written communication conveys so much less emotion than verbal communication, people tend to read more into the textual form to infer things like emotion or intent. There aren't specific rules for this, people just pick up on patterns. For example angry or excited people tend to use capitals to "sound louder". People talking casually tend to leave out some grammar. Friendly conversations tend to have more long rambling sentences, as opposed to someone trying to prove a point with concise, well punctuated sentences.
So I think what NTs are doing is just subconsciously figuring out these patterns to determine a likely emotion/intent behind messages.
To me, "K" isn't rude for the reasons your friend tried to list, but it does sound "colder" to me, probably because my brain sees a pattern where the people who are not interested in talking to me will tend to use short succinct responses, while people happy to talk will use longer form.
But a huge part of communication, especially online, is just getting used to the people you talk to. It's happened many times that someone who seemed grumpy to me at first turned out to be very friendly, etc.

I really like the idea to tax each house successively more. And the money made from these taxes could specifically go to the government buying houses and turning them into social housing, or perhaps providing big discounts for first home buyers.

I'm not sure the sugar argument holds, plenty of animals naturally eat foods with sugar, and do not brush their teeth. Of course they don't eat nearly as much sugar as a typical human, but that doesn't mean that sugar should always be avoided.
For cats specifically though I am not sure, maybe all sugar is bad, but I don't think it's because of teeth brushing.

I think the intent behind a safe space is that it is separated from potential triggers. So people who were abused by a man may wish to be in a space with no men, since the sight of men might bring up past trauma. Same for people abused by women. Putting men and women together, even though they have all experienced abuse, may still be exposing them all to the same triggers they want to avoid.
Of course all these people have the same right to having safe spaces, but those spaces don't have to be in the same place.

I'm not gonna go claiming that the Eragon books deserve a prize, but I loved them as a kid, and comparing them as equals to that movie is bordering on insanity.
