I don't get people that are here in the fediverse and *want to bring over* the content that is on FB, IG, TikTok, etc.

On my Instagram account, I follow a whole bunch of zoos, rehabilitation centers, parks, etc. that would never join a niche platform but make absolutely amazing content. I would love for there to be a commercial product for that kind of content to reach directly the fediverse. I also enjoy minor "celebrities" (drag queens, podcasters, voice actors) who again, don't really care for quirky alternative social media products. I wish I could see their content directly from my more private Lemmy account.

Can we defederate from hexbear.net?

On the one hand I am not mad to have different ideologies here but they seem to go out of their way to pick fights which is pretty grating for what is supposed to be a memey, supportive community. Also whenever someone points out a one negative thing about a communist country they seem to counter it by saying a western country did the same/worse, which isn't wrong but doesn't address the point? If they could just accept a fault here or there it would go a long way in seeming less aggressive.

Admin update - Hexbear Defederated

Yeah this is tough. I posted a comment in the original thread and had a really great interaction with someone explaining their thoughts but also just troll comments. It felt like a representation of their whole community: a mix of really passionate people who want to spread a message and left-wing 4chan-esque belligerent trolls. I think that ideally they can let us know (not through their words, rather their actions) whether their community values discussion over "dunking". If the main point of their federation is only to find people to argue with, we should defederate. If they actually want to be involved in good faith interactions, we can individually block users or communities that push it too far.

Admin update - Hexbear Defederated

Reply in thread

I really do not understand why people are so pressed about that

My understanding of the situation is:

Ada: whoa I think I saw CSAM

Other Admin: No it's legal so it will stay

Ada: While it is legal, I am uncomfortable having any content that could be mistaken for CSAM on my instance, goodbye

It's not like you can't make an account on plenty of other instances to interact with lemmynsfw if you really wanted to. The majority of the blahaj community here seem totally fine with her decision too, so it's not like some crazy power trip

Official Safety Memo

Fun fact! This is a terrible way to hold a snapping turtle. Their necks are quite long and can reach behind their front legs. If you ever do have to hold a turtle, hold them as far back as possible and pray you can keep it balanced.

In a recent Capcom R&D presentation, Capcom has clarified it's stances on mods and PC gaming.

I wonder if Japanese companies not liking modding is somehow a cultural thing. I remember littlekuriboh, the guy who does the Yu-Gi-Oh abridged, mentioning that the actual Japanese creators of the show wanted nothing to do with him and his content when he met them at a con. While non-japanese people see editing official content as form of investment and passion (even if it's a joke), the japanese mindset is that you get what you get and messing with it is disrespectful.
