Trump administration tells Abrego Garcia he now faces deportation to African country of Eswatini

He already agreed to be deported to Costa Rica iirc, they're just trying to make it as painful as possible. It's ridiculous.

Across the US, people are dismantling and destroying Flock surveillance cameras. Anger over ICE connections and privacy violations is fueling the sabotage.

Mamdani takes sardonic view of Polymarket’s ‘free grocery store’ stunt in New York
Reply in thread
Grocery stores don't have a lot of margins, so this move won't reduce prices by much or at all. What it will do is improve low income areas the "market" has left alone to improve the availability and quality of nearby food. I've heard a lot of people skeptical of the "lower prices" part, when I think the food desert part is a much more important part of the plan tbh.

As the US sabotages the globe's fossil fuel infrastructure, in China BYD's latest Blade batteries charge from 10–97% in nine minutes, and have a range of 1,000 km (640 miles).
Reply in thread
I would not be surprised if BYD is the industry leader and has the best battery technology, I just also wouldn't be surprised if they are doing a showcase of the potential of the batteries if they sacrificed longevity. It is a claim by a company and isn't verified by independent consumers.
Battery technology especially has a long history of performance with big astricks, so it's good to be skeptical, even with industry leaders.

Nah, the lowest digit of a credit card is a checksum, and the first few digits identify the credit card company, so it's pretty trivial to narrow down the possible options

In Linux, you are in charge. If you say jump, Linux asks "how high." If you ask Linux to bomb a daycare it'll say "run with sudo or root." If you ask Linux to sudo bomb a daycare it'll say "should I leave no witnesses?"

YSK the Venezuelans community in the US is not representative of Venezuelans as a whole.
I asked my father for his thoughts on the situation, and he talked about how the Venezuelans could go back home to visit their families and that they were very excited. I sent him the Lemmy post from the Venezuelan that we all probably saw, and explained that there is a lot that is still unclear and how the US's actions are very similar to the ones he's seen throughout his life, especially post 9/11.
You make a great point, I do think we can see communities as a monoculture sometimes, or that they are at least portrayed like that in the media (undocumented=illegal criminal/gang member) which is just blatantly false.
