Is privacy possible with smart TV?

Honestly, a PC monitor and a separate device connected to it is probably much less bullshit.

Pihole is nice to have regardless of TVs.

Commercial displays are usually very overpriced, although if you can get a good deal that could be nice.

Not sure I'd "trust" any such menu.

can i hide entire instance from /all feed

Currently: Not for a user.
The only way to block at instance level is defederation which is usually a bit extreme.

This shouldn't be too complicated to handle at the user level, but someone would have to spend time to develop it and contribute to lemmy source code.

Likewise, there are specific instances for which I'd want to auto-sub to all current and future communities, which is also not a fair that exists (other than creating your account there and browsing "Local")

IMHO, Blocking at the user level is a feature that's relatively likely to happen eventually.

How do you keep hair from constantly getting in your mouth?

Having grown my hair down to my belly button over the last years...
The "hair dips into your toast" phase is annoying af.

Hair ties, hair clips, bobby pins, hats, etc.
A nice hat when you're going outside on a windy day helps a lot imho.
Honestly, there's a period when your hair is long enough to be annoying but not long enough to tie back and it's, well, annoying.
Good news is when it reaches just about your chin, you'll be able to tie it back when it annoys you and it's much less fuss from that point on.
Once it's even longer than that it will end on your chest and it's not in the way as much.

Pre-emptively cut the forked ends now and then.
It seems counter productive to progress, but that's still faster than breaking knots of tangled hair.

Patience.

A random dude with long hair.
Edit: Oh and if you get yourself some hair ties, get those without the metal bit otherwise they break so much hair.

Renters in 36 of Canada's largest cities can't afford to buy a starter home: report

It's not even just housing but most public services too.
It's already hard to get an appointment with a doctor, registering a car has been next to impossible around here lately, although the latter is more incompetencethan anything.
Immigration in itself is fine, but I feel we sell a pipe dream to immigrants lately.

I feel for the younger generation and I'd be glad for this bubble to burst even though I stand to "lose".
My house has almost doubled in value in the past 7-8 years, and I'm in an "affordable" city.
Only managed to get into the market through sheer luck in timing.

I say lose, eh, loosely, because I don't intend to ever sell this old house anyway, so its market value is mostly irrelevant.
Having a place to call home is a basic human need and people trying to make a life here deserve better.

How do you deal with malicious requests to your servers?

I do client ssl verification.
Nobody but me or my household is supposed to access those anyway.
Any failure is a ban (I don't remember how long for).
I also ban every IP not from my country, adjusting that sometimes if I travel internationally.
It's much easier when you host stuff only for your devices (my case) and not for the larger public (like this lemmy instance).

What's the mob policy on Emojis here on the fediverse?

Reply in thread

Second of all, the whole “build my personality to fit in” is exactly backwards.

Yea, I feel like the fediverse is what we make of it. Trying to fake it for a social net sounds sad.
If OP likes emoji, emoji away 🚀🌕
I think your take is a good one even outside of social media.
Be yourself! (Assuming you're not a serial killer I guess)
