US Capitol rioter who beat officer with flagpole sentenced
"A confidential source told the FBI that Stager had claimed he did not know the man was a police officer and thought he was striking a member of the far-left Antifa movement."
"second video shows Stager saying: "Everybody in there is a treasonous traitor. Death is the only remedy for what's in that building," in apparent reference to members of Congress and law enforcement."
A. I guess it's just okay to beat someone you disagree with, right?
B. Also, why would anti-fascist, want to instate a wannabe fascist?

How does everyone feel about Google Pixel phones?
Still on a pixel 2, it's really starting to show it's age. It's been a solid phone. I think I will upgrade to the Pixel 8 this fall... But I will miss the rear finger print scanner.

New felony charges rock Trump world
Reply in thread
I think he's getting down voted because it seems like they are suggesting that we don't pursue criminal charges just because he's a rich political figure. And running for office is an excuse for not pursuing charges just because they are a popular choice for some. Especially the since the evidence that is out there seems to be very strong and compelling... And that's just the public info.
Public servants (police and such) and political figures should be held to a higher standard not a lower standard, regardless of what political side they are on. And the rich and powerful should be held to an equal standard as the poor.

U.S. states urged to block Donald Trump from 2024 run
He should not be able to run based on the disqualification clause of the 14th amendment because of the instruction.
Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3:
"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

I've been here for a few weeks now... And I'm still not entirely sure how fediverse works. I was under the impression that it didn't really matter which instance you sign up for, they would still communicate with one another.
I think there needs to be a better/simplified explanation on the website of how everything works.

Speaking of not thinking the Constitution exists:
Trump should not be able to run for president based on the disqualification clause of the 14th amendment because of the insurrection.
Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3: "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."
Other things of note: 'In early 2016, Trump again had gutting the First Amendment in view, this time wanting to “open up the libel laws” to infringe on the freedom of the press. That summer, he vowed to protect articles of the Constitution that do not exist. In 2017, he said constitutional checks and balances that required him to share power with Congress are a “very rough” and “archaic” system, which is “a really bad thing for the country.” That fall, he said asserting Fifth Amendment rights is proof of guilt. In 2018, he floated unilaterally ending birthright citizenship in violation of the 14th Amendment.
In 2019, Trump repeatedly claimed Article II of the Constitution gave him “the right to do whatever I want.” The same year, he argued he should be able to abuse national emergency declarations to expand his own power beyond constitutional boundaries because Democrats would do the same thing if given the chance. In 2020, he reportedly expressed interest in declaring martial law though the constitutional preconditions for it, per Ex parte Milligan (1866), had not been met. And just last month, he called for executing drug dealers after a two-hour trial modeled on communist China’s justice system, a blatant rejection of constitutional due process. By the standard of many of his Republican supporters, even Trump’s record on the Second Amendment falls short."

Because you need me, Springfield. Your guilty conscience may move you to vote Democratic, but deep down you long for a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals, and rule you like a king. That's why I did this, to save you from yourselves.

Sci-fi you couldn’t get into?
The popular ones that come to mind (unpopular opinions):
-Hyperion by Dan Simmons. Tried twice and couldn't even finish it.
-Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton. Tried reading it twice and audiobook twice, give up each time.
-The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. Finished it but it didn't really like it.
-Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin. Finished it but didn't really care about anything going on in the book.

I agree, but I haven't really come across any Nazis on here yet. Maybe they have been all defederated before I saw any.
The most I've seen was lemmygrad accusing others of being Nazis... Mostly accusing all Ukrainians of being Nazis with no real evidence, other than a very small minority of the population that are wannabe neo-Nazis (true of almost every country).

To build off your comment. I would like to see the post topic in the top bar when browsing the comments, I sometimes forget what was the topic when I'm looking at comments (most of the time when I come back to it later). It would be nice not having to scroll all the way to the top. I hope that makes sense.
Also, a refresh button that's not in the sub menu.
