Box3D | A revolutionary new physics engine developed by Erin Catto in collaboration with a Valve dev

After seeing its announcement a few days ago I didn't think much of it, but after looking into it a bit this looks awesome !

Box3D was released a few days ago by legendary developer Erin Catto accompanied by a blog post, this is the person behind the popular Box2D engine.

In the blog post he explains that his work stems from his collaboration with Dirk Gregorius, "Principal Software Engineer II and Physics Architect" at Valve, the person behind Half-Life: Alyx's physics engine "Rubikon", which Box3D is based off.

Facepunch has also revealed that they have been using Box3D for about a year now as well in s&box. Showcasing a cool demo

An interesting quote from the blog post:

On the Valve side, Rubikon continues to evolve and Dirk has developed optimizations (similar to those in Box3D) in a new engine called Ragnarok. Look for that in future Valve games.

👀
Did he just reveal Valve's next physics engine ?
+HL3 confirmed

How are you peeps able to take it waiting so long for releases ?

I know this might sound like I am glancing over all the hard work of mangakas but I'm really not, just venting my despair... x)

How are you people able to follow a story and not go mad when the chapters are sometimes ~ so. damn. SLOW ~ to release ?
I had read a manga 5 years ago, it was 22 chapters at the time, but for some reason it stuck with my mind and I finally decided check and re-read it again a few days ago.
Half a day, 53 chapters(*) later and I was already done reading it. I'm now just dreading having to wait 5 more years for it to maybe finish. Or follow the drip of releases. I think it's one of those monthly releases (maybe less since there ~40 new chapters over 5+ years).
Do you guys follow releases ? Do you not ?
I personally almost never do..
One funny thing I notice I do when I know I'm getting close to the the last chapters of a manga I like. In my manga reader, I ignore the chapter number and just click my "Next Chapter" button praying to god it won't be the last one 😂
Again, not a critic of the author(s).

  • Actually discovered while making this post that there are 8 chapters for me to read YOSHAAAAAAA

"Steam Hardware Updates" leaks shipping of review units and date of embargo (June 23rd)

Contents of the tweet:

  1. Announcement for Hardware reservations and prices expected between Jun 22 - Jun 30
  2. Reviewers are actively receiving Steam Machine and Steam Frame units (see enclosed photos)
  3. Steam Machine comes with a Steam Controller, 2 mounting brackets and a Steam Machine in a box.
  4. There are separate boxes for faceplates (unsure if shipping by default)
  5. Creators embargo seems to be due to lift on Hardware reviews after Jun 23
  6. Unclear whether Steam Machine and Frame are launching simultaneously, likely

However in a subtweet they also write:

Steam Machine seems to be before frame, but the wait for Frame isn’t long 👍

It's a form factor that I'm pretty interested in personally, especially paired with some lighter weight HMDs like the xreal glasses.
It could also work in tandem VR headset, but maybe not as useful since the most used ones already have compute in them.

There's also the alternative of the Bento (github) made by the cool @michaelthatsit (twitter) which is a documented DIY project to transform Steam Deck into a keyboard PC !

Anyone else interested in this ?

Unable to connect my piefed.social account to the Voyager app

Hi,

I've moved over to piefed.social from lemmy not too long ago and tried to link my piefed.social account in Voayger, but all I get is a notification at the top of my screen saying "Connection error, please try again.".

I was actually able to create and link a piefed.world account and link it in Voyager. So I'm not sure why it doesn't want to work with the .social account.

Does anyone have a fix for this ?
