Running a dehumidifier can also help lower the temperature. Water takes a much longer time to heat up/cool down than air does. If you remove the warm moisture from the air and then open the windows and let the cooler 20-25 degree air inside, it should cool the house faster.

World Cup tourists aren’t leaving tips — and restaurants are fighting back

In the US, servers are guaranteed minimum wage as well. Unfortunately that wage is crazy know low at $7.25/hour.

That is how much the restaurant pays in wages, however the employees are guaranteed $7.25/hour. If wages +tips is less than $7.25/hour, the restaurant is required to make up the difference.

Why Harris is taking her campaign to a state she won’t win: Texas
Tx has been moving towards flipping blue.
Clinton lost by ~800,000 votes (5% of registered voters) and Biden lost by ~640,000 votes (~3.5% of registered voters). This year, TX is breaking records for early voting turnout, and, historically speaking, Democrats win with high turnout. In just 4 days, TX has cast almost 1/4 as many votes as the entire 2020 election and that's during the first week of early voting when the polls are only required to be open 9 hours a day. We still haven't seen the turnout for this weekend or next week, when polls are open at least 12 hours a day.

Pepperidge farm remembers
Yes and so strong was the belief with Republicans that Obama was going to hold citizens prisoner in Walmarts in Central TX that Abbott ordered the TX National Guard to oversee the Jade Helm training exercises. Insane that he is still Governor after taking action on such a ridiculous story.
The CIA later confirmed that the conspiracy theory came from the Russia and its propaganda machine.

Texas Republicans vote to arrest Democrats stalling redistricting vote
Reply in thread
Only immediate consequences. The gerrymandering they want to pass has the potential to screw the state and country depending on how the gerrymandering works and is perceived to work. I'm afraid this may make our voting numbers go down even more.
No telling what can happen if Republicans achieve their goal of solidifying a bigger majority in the US House. We've already seen that Texans are willing to keep Cruz in the senate, rather than spend 30 minutes voting.

Walmart fires 6'4" cisgender woman threatened by man who thought she was trans
Reply in thread
She was fired because a man (without affiliation with walmart) entered the women's restroom and verbally assaulted her. He wasn't just factually wrong assuming that a woman can't be tall, he entered a space that he knew he wasnt supposed to enter.

In Texas, if you have a contract with the state or a school district, you have to sign a contract where you agree not to "boycott israel" whatever that means. So I guess if one was to "boycott israel" while taking money from the state of Texas, that could be considered an illegal boycott.

TIL Washing your hands with plain soap is probably better than using antibacterial soap in the long run
The antibacterial soaps also help create supergerms that can survive the antibiotic used. They should only be used in medical settings when necessary. The overuse of antibacterial soaps and antibiotics are going to help create more pandemics should enough bacteria become antibiotic-resistant.

Has anyone else noticed how dead most bars/clubs are now?
I imagine there's a lot less tourists since ICE started showing up in big numbers in LA. The presence of a large oppressice force also makes some question whether they want to go out or not, especially those close to the people who have been kidnapped.

Is Texas about to put a Democrat in the Senate? | Colin Allred is gaining on Ted Cruz
www.votetexas.gov has everything you need for the election. You can register to vote, check your voter registration, check your polling locations and hours, and see the important dates. Voter registration must be received by Oct 7.
Polls open Oct 21-Nov 1, with a final day to vote on Nov 5. Polls will be open at least 9 hours the first week and at least 12 hours the second week and final voting day. Go in the first 2 weeks and there won't be a long line! I've never waited more than 10 minutes when voting the first two weeks.

Trump asked if he's 'fluid' after saying he doesn't 'want' pronouns
Reply in thread
No, because "it" is a pronoun as well. You would have to use Donald's name every time you reference Donald in order to keep from using pronouns to refer to Donald.
