Why do I hear boss music?

Reply in thread

My mom found porn on my computer in high school so my parents decided it would be a good idea to sit the whole family down and talk about what she found and what new restrictions the Internet would have for us all.

Turns out that restrictions on porn for high schoolers don't work and just make them more... creative. That was my first taste of learning about IT haha so maybe I should actually thank them.

Absolutely based

“I was passing by and I saw what was going down,” he said in an interview, “and I figured, they can’t have a riot without me!” Van Ronk was not gay, but he had firsthand experience with police violence, both at the Beatnik Riot in Washington Square Park in 1961, as well as at many antiwar demonstrations. “As far as I was concerned,” he said, “anybody who’d stand against the cops was all right with me, and that’s why I stayed in…Every time you turn around the cops were pulling some outrage or another.”

Trans Rights Are Workers Rights

Reply in thread

A 2020 academic study with a sample size of 372 respondents found that 40 percent of transgender people had attempted suicide. It found that interpersonal microaggressions and emotional neglect by family members were the leading contributors to the attempts.

Similarly, in 2016, the National Transgender Discrimination Survey found that 41 percent of 6,450 respondents said they had previously attempted suicide. By comparison, the CDC found that in 2020, 0.36 percent of the population had attempted suicide.

According to a 2022 survey by The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ suicide prevention organization, nearly 1 in 5 young people who identified as transgender or non-binary have attempted suicide.

Meanwhile, a 2018 study of more than 120,000 children age 11 to 19 found that 41.8 percent of non-binary adolescents—those who do not identify as definitively male or female—had attempted suicide

I think it's open to interpretation. Like you could take it at face value of just a funny comic about lions and gazelles.

At a deeper level though, it's about the ones in charge placating their victims by giving them something that won't actually help them out of their bad situation. And also maybe that knowledge without action won't change anything. That kind of situation and lesson could be applied to so many things, like rich people telling poor people to go to college to get degrees that don't actually help enough with pulling themselves out of poverty because in reality the game is rigged.

Stuff like that, but that's just my interpretation.

It's "Gays Against Groomers", a far right anti LGBT group that spreads disinformation. The LGB Alliance is a (imo and others opinion) transphobic group that doesn't want to be grouped with or defend trans rights.

This has to be a joke...

Hey that's me!

reason: lemmy.ml rule 1 ("butt hurt")

I'm not really butt hurt. I'm actually a mod myself, but for a tiny community that doesn't get a bunch of awful comments. I really do have respect for the amount of garbage the mods in [email protected] and [email protected] have to go through. Most of the comments they remove are completely valid.

But this is a meme sub so...

What the heck did you just hecking say about me, you little mod? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the lemmy.world Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda.ml, and I have over 300 confirmed comments. I am trained in gorilla shitposting and I'm the top sniper in the entire fediverse armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another mod. I will wipe you the heck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my hecking words. You think you can get away with saying that poopy to me over the Internet? Think again, meanypants. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the fediverse and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, picklebrain. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your modlog. You're hecking over, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can comment at you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in verbal combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the lemmy Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable bubblebutt off the face of the Internet, you little bozo. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" mod action was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your hecking finger. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goshdarn dumbo. I will poop butthurt comments all over you and you will drown in it. You're hecking done, kiddo.

The Worst Person You Know Made a Great Point; Asmongold Asks Elon Musk To Prove Legitimacy of His ‘Path of Exile 2’ Account

The craziest part of that article is

Vice co-founder Shane Smith stepped down as CEO in 2018, but has remained the company's (...) The Canadian-born journalist’s focus seems to be trained on the southern border, with an editorial line closer to Trump campaign fearmongering than hard news reporting. (Smith is not to be confused with Vice co-founder Gavin McInnes, who left the media company and established the far-right militant group the Proud Boys).

So two of the three Vice media founders are now far right? I tried to find out more about Suroosh Alvi, the third founder, but didn't see much. Though on his X (🤢) he posts and reports a bunch of pro Gaza stuff.

I shouldn't be surprised cuz it looks like they all got rich off Vice, but still.

“Every reconstruction involves some level of inference and speculation to literally ‘flesh out’ details not preserved in the fossil record,” Celeskey explains. “In the process of creating paleoart, artists and the researchers have discussions about how to fill in these missing pieces, which helps everyone involved to think about how they are interpreting the actual evidence at hand.” From a NatGeo article I found

Large Majority of Americans Want to End Electoral College

So the people in cities should just be worth less when they vote? It's a federal vote for a federal office, everyone in the country should count the same.

The individual states already have their own powers which make sure the federal government doesn't make decisions that are bad for those states. And each county and town have their own governments that pass local laws.

I've also heard this argument so many times but I haven't heard any actual examples.

Unredacted FTC suit shows 'Project Nessie' price-raising algorithm made Amazon $1.4B

Reply in thread

Amazon owns both the product and the platform. They often are involved in the delivery of the products as well. This gives them quite a bit of control over other companies selling on their platform. They can push whatever product they like to the top of the page. They can copy other products and push the original to the last page of results, and then drop their price until the other company can't compete, and then raise their prices.

They have a lot of control which allows them to be anti competitive. And allegedly they use that
