android

Can't even customize a lot of things anymore. You like pure black as in #000000. Google says fuck you. You want to know what time it is to the second. Google says fuck you. Want to control your notification LED. Google says fuck you. Want to prevent apps from being purged from the memory. Google says fuck you. I genuinely hope something else comes along soon. And no I don't want Apple, they're even worse than Google.

We be blind to our own language

Ok this doing my head in a bit.

Meal is short for mealtide, not used in English anymore but is in other Germanic languages. And etymologists seem to be uncertain if the meal part relates to time or milling. But that seems weird to me because then mealtide would literally mean something like times-time.

Edit: the two definitions of meal seem to stem from the same word. Hitting/striking wheat is done in times.

I'll use Dutch to clarify since English doesn't have the time definition anymore.

Ik sla het tarwe niet één maal, niet twee maal maar vijftien maal. I hit the wheat not once, not twice but fifteen times.

Na het enkele malen te slaan konden we het malen in de molen. After hitting it a few times we could mill it in the mill.

En toen hadden we meel. And then we had meal.

I hope that somewhat makes it clear.

No Gods, No Rulers

It always applies. But they always have some leeway in the shows. Sometimes they're more relaxed and sometimes they're more strict. Depends on how far along they are compared to the federation, civilization wise.

This annoys me to no end. My phone has more RAM than my previous pc and yet android keeps purging everything from the memory. No matter what settings you tinker with, it keeps doing it. My Lenovo P2 from 2016 "only" had 4gbs of RAM and would keep dozens of apps open and would only purge the memory with a cold boot. I hate what android has become and that it's basically the only other real choice besides apple phones.

The invention of smartphones probably made the idea of international travel less intimidating since you now have a pocket translator tool and can find your way in a foreign place with GPS navigation.

Travelling has changed a lot.

It's become way more accessible. Not a lot of people used to travel for leisure. But now it seems almost everyone except the poorest do it. There are a lot more businesses that cater to tourists in every city/town nowadays.

Smartphones have taken a lot of fun out of it too though. There's almost no challenge to it anymore and thus less a sense of adventure. At least for me.
