This is exactly what Lenin was arguing for in Left Communism: an infantile disorder. Socialists must engage with electoralism to show the benefits of socialism and to maintain visibility in a pre-revolutionary society. It doesn’t mean to vote blue no matter who, but it does mean get involved with local politics (and even national politics as much as you can) to do actual harm reduction.

America entered late in both world wars and in both cases only entered to protect US capitalists’ interests. D Day literally only happened because capitalists wanted to occupy Western Europe before the Soviets could liberate everyone.

In Korea, the US worked to prevent the communists from liberating their country from the hyper capitalists who were oppressing their country. Revolutions don’t happen unless things are very bad, and the US stepped in on the side of very bad.

If you're asking people who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, then of course the problems are insurmountable. I never claimed to have all of the answers, but I know for damn sure that it is a lie that there is no solution, as these "experts" seem to be implying.

Retirement accounts are a real issue, but could be solved by having the top wealthiest shareholders pay out to the poorest shareholders until retirements are guaranteed. This could also be combined with Social Security reform that requires wealthy people to contribute more and extract less from the system.

Presumably many of the actual healthcare workers and some of the admin workers would still be needed in a nationalized system. The insurance agents and related admin can all get other jobs. No one dreams of being an insurance agent as a kid, these people would be free to pursue more meaningful and useful work.

None of these are insurmountable problems for a government that actually serves the people instead of money. This article is just prevarication to cover our current governments inaction.

Yes, unfortunately the multiple instance nature of Lemmy is an obstacle for most people. I’ve been here for more than a year and I still struggle to describe what Lemmy is.

I can’t give you an entire education on political economy and socialist history in one comment. At the very least, socialism works towards solving the conflict that arises when one class of people do all the labour while another class reaps the profits, as occurs in the capitalist system of private ownership of the means of production. This conflict is the main source of misery in the world today- war, starvation, deaths from preventable disease, climate change/ecological collapse etc. are all inevitable under capitalism because of the profit motive. Those things can all happen under socialism, but the system itself doesn’t incentivize them.

Socialism obviously works better than capitalism, and the fact that you're arguing for capitalism in the Late Stage Capitalism comm tells me that you aren't here in good faith.

If history is taught correctly, they will know that Americans of today are propagandized to hell by the capitalist oligarchs who are fighting tooth and nail to maintain the hierarchy. That the coercive structure of the capitalist system left people alienated and disenfranchised and largely unable to overcome the sea of misinformation designed to isolate and divide communities.

They are saying that the only way to escape the grind of capitalism is to succeed at capitalism, which is only possible by exploiting other workers.

I suppose you could also escape by going to live in the wilderness somewhere, but most people aren’t equipped for that, nor do they want to be a complete hermit.

American voting behavior is entirely controlled by the media and their oligarch owners. Americans believe so thoroughly in the myth of their free press that they outsource their political analysis to whatever media outlet triggers their specific fears/hatreds/desires.

The concept of IP is theft to begin with. No technology arises from a vacuum, it is all built on the collective efforts of humanity through the ages. The fact that some billionaire can claim ownership over an idea is a moral failing of capitalism.

As a member of the working class, I don't particularly mind if a socialist country reaps the rewards of my work. Also, it's not like IP is a zero-sum game, and that an idea put into use in one place means it can't be put into use in another. It's like ancient Babylon getting mad at Sumeria for putting seeds into the ground.
