a very specific type of winter boot please?

They probably won't be BIFL, but I recently bought the Lems Summit Waterproof boots. They have a "foot shaped" toe box and a relatively wide fit. I should be able to let you know how they fare on ice and snow within a couple of weeks.

Clowning Around Rule

I remember hearing a theory that it could have been intended as a viral marketing campaign for the remake of It. Once it started getting bad press, they gave up on the idea, but copycats kept copycatting.

No idea if there's any truth to any of that, but it seems plausible.
