What replacement for each major social media do you use
Check out Pixelfed for an Instagram replacement. Seems to fill the same sort of use case

Reddit Sync will have a full page sign up for his new app, Lemmy Sync, when you open the app on June 30th (also kbin support coming!)
As a long term Sync for Reddit user, this is absolutely fantastic news!

Lemmy.world active users is tapering off while other servers are gaining serious traction.

The threadiverse is just the name given to all of the Lemmy and Kbin instances as a whole.

Why is snaps hated

Or even just Linux Mint (non-debian edition). I've moved to that as it's a familiar Ubuntu base but without snaps.

/kbin - preview of upcoming changes
Jumping on this to mention two things:
Firstly, thanks to all that are helping develop this. Once I got our instance up and running i was impressed with the whole thing. Potentially related: I have more gray hairs now. Let's just say I'm glad to see that work is being done to simplify the docker setup and improve the admin documentation.
Secondly, one behaviour I've noticed is when searching for a new magazine/community, one of the instance admins is listed as owner and moderator and is automatically subscribed to this new (to our instance) magazine/community, and the created date is listed as when we first searched for it.
Is this a bug (known or otherwise) or expected behaviour? Just seems a bit odd...

Federation Lag-o-meter
This looks really good.
As an admin of a small kbin instance, I'll be keeping an eye on updates from you as this will be very handy!

I'd like to encourage people on the fediverse to comment/upvote/post more than when reddit
I'll try my best.
I usually lurked, threw the odd vote out there but usually kept to myself on Reddit.
I was already on Mastodon so am familiar with the fediverse, but setting up a kbin instance was a learning curve and a half!
Took me a while to work out how to find and subscribe to magazines on other instances, but shortly after I did I realised that you can subscribe to Lemmy communities in the same way. No more worrying about which app is busier, as it just doesnt matter too much. Just use what you prefer, its the fediverse way.
I'm eagerly awaiting the Android app 👍

So where are we all supposed to go now?

The great thing is that it doesn't matter which platform "wins" or not. They work together fine so you just use the one you prefer.

Why do they serve food like this?
"Hey Bob, I've run out of pasta bowls... Where should I put this macaroni, on a plate or somethin?"
"Nah man, watch this!"

(Linux users !) What was the first Linux distro that you used ?
OpenSUSE 10.2 I think. Then Ubuntu 7.04. Stuck with it until they moved to the Unity DE.
Then Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Kubuntu...
Recently moved to Linux Mint Cinnamon as I got fed up of more of the base system being Snaps.
I did try Mint MATE but the need for more modern built in features won over the nostalgia 🤣
