Visa Exec Confirms Payment Processing Services Being Halted For Japanese Retailers Selling Adult Content: "It Is Necessary To Disallow It To Protect The Brand"

Is this a case of culture clash or me being oblivious, where an actual decent amount of people would think less of Visa for allowing transactions to go through with this? Because to me they just handle money. Never occurred to me they would take a stand against any kind of transaction that is not, you know, illegal or outright murder-for-hire.

Who and what belongs here?

Awhile ago, someone made a post listing communities targeted at women. All of the communities are now dead, since the poster listed only kbin.social communities and kbin.social went down. I did continue a community listed there at ![email protected], but I do not know about if the other communities have been recreated on other instances. However, the reason I bring this up is because I think it might be useful to have a similar post here. Grow the Fediverse and all that.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 hits 1m sales in just one day

I'm asexual, not aromantic, but thinking about this from an aromantic perspective I completely get wanting more close platonic relationships that don't turn romantic. That would actually be inclusive, a lot of people try to put romance everywhere, and I get it! It's fun to do! But aromantic people like to have representation too, and options to be friends but not romantic helps them feel represented.

Too bad this guy's "checkbox insert" means it's probably (I might be wrong) an "omg gay people exist in my game, gross" complaint and not a "hey platonic relationships are important too, don't make every significant relationship romantic" for all the aros (or even non-aromantic people who think friendship is important as well as romance) out there.

Is it a PTB move to ban a user if their only activity in a community is downvoting posts?

I feel this could go several ways.

Troll who just wants to make people feel bad. Ban them.

Person who legitimately thinks content is low-quality, but likes the topic in general (perhaps no other Lemmy community exists for it?) and wants to see better posts. Leave it alone.

Drive-by voter checking in from Local or All (sorting by New makes even small communities visible, so "we're not big" isn't immune), maybe they legit think it's low effort, or hostile and toxic. Or they just see Thing They Don't Like and downvote instead of using the system properly—not quite the same as a troll purposely, maliciously ruining things but in my opinion not a great practice at all, but also not quite a bannable offense, unless they actively subscribe to a community full of things they do not like just to shit on it. And I am guessing right now intent is pretty hard to prove.

Because I can think of reasonable reasons to do this I would err on the side of not punishing a potential innocent. I'd wait at least until you see several extremely high-quality posts that are also inoffensive get downvoted. But I also get that downvoting everything in a community can be destructive. A big community can just shake it off, the upvotes will eventually outweigh the few downvotes. A small one will look like it has crap content if there is ~3 up/3 down to every post.

Also, check patterns outside your community too. Explicit stated intent to ruin community in a comment? Goodbye. Upvotes things outside the community? More chance to be a normal user who's probably got an innocent reason to downvote.

Opportunities to promote Lemmy on Reddit?

Reply promoting the Fediverse literally any time someone complains about mainstream social media?

Never deleted my accounts, just quit using. (Intended to go back to grab saved posts, never did that.) They have engagement history with certain communities, I should probably go sign back into them and keep an eye out in those communities.

Alright, went looking for active versions of the communities listed in that post.

I also submit some communities for interests traditionally considered feminine, though I realize not all women would participate in these and other genders participate too:

If women post about these things here I highly encourage them to crosspost to the hobby community too. I am definitely not the only woman who isn't following this community. I don't plan to engage here aside from these two comments. (Nothing against you or other women, I don't hold "there is no patriarchy" beliefs, but this community does allow discussion on more depressing topics than I want to engage with on my online funtime, such as patriarchy and probably sexism.) I hope this proves a fruitful and fun place for the women who do subscribe to the community :) good luck!

How are you doing with your communities?

Pleased that ![email protected] gained what looks like another active participant :)

Lots of downvotes on a recent post on ![email protected] that regular commenters engaged with happily, so I'm wondering if it's just people seeing it on local and disliking it as typical mainstream social media fodder, or if it's subscribers who don't comment not liking it, or both. Remember all those "which pill would you take" and then there's a couple different-color pills giving you different superpowers? It was something like that, but on-topic for otome games. Kind of bewildered by that.

Have looked at other Fedi instances including Mbin for backups, didn't find one that was just centered on games. Guess it'll probably be lemmy.zip.

You can remove one Pokémon (or evolutionary line) from the Pokédex. Which do you choose?

The elemental monkeys (first stage specifically) always annoyed me for no rational reason at all, immediate Pokémon I think of when I think of "least favorite". But that's three Pokémon, so I have to pick something else.

Really not a fan of Gothita. Or the entire line. Pokémon that evoke more human-like designs usually land on my disliked list pretty quickly. Just a personal dislike, no idea where it comes from.

Manga Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion Thread [2024, Week 46]

Not sure where else to put this, but I appreciate ani.social for new anime/manga discovery. Sometimes I toggle on Local and look around, and I often find an anime or manga title that sounds interesting, I click it, I look it up online and maybe read some discussion here about it if applicable, and add it to my ever-growing list of stuff to read or watch.

It is also funny because I see people writing that they didn't like an anime or manga for X reason, and X reason is exactly what draws me to it. I find both positive and negative reviews pretty useful as long as you say why you (dis)liked it. You tell people what kind of content is there (often tells more than just the promo content for the anime/manga/book/film/game/whatever it is), and they can judge for themselves. I always toss over an upvote to these because they are useful on telling me if I'd like the content or not, even if the opinion they have on the work ends up being opposite to mine.
