Half-Earth Socialism: The Game
Reply in thread
Okay, I won.
I will say that I get negative carbon emissions at least before the halfway mark of my tenure, and the temperature does not go down enough for victory still.
::: spoiler spoiler on how I got the temperature down I did the same as usual, except in my last years I did the Solar Radiation Management option that makes the Accelerationists like you. It has some negative side effects, but the worst ones will not show up because it dropped my temp and I won the game. That's for my successor to deal with when the population gets mad and shoots down the planes doing the SRM and the temperature goes back up again :P
I feel like there has to be a "clean" way to lower the temperature, without using SRM at the end and leaving a mess for my successor, but hey. ::: ::: spoiler tips for your first paragraph Get the big electricity upgrades and power just doesn't matter. You can afford all the expensive Accelerationist production that is good for the land/water use efficiency, the animals, and emissions but a giant power draw then. Since it's just drawing on all your green electricity it isn't costing you fuel and making more emissions, or something like that. :::

sometimes my phone browser does weird things with the game open but it either puts me back at a save checkpoint or goes right back where I left off and I really appreciate that
now my appetite has been whet for browser games i can play on my phone

I think now the goal is to have the temp increase under 1.0C, negative emissions, and biodiversity at the 1 bar. The tough thing is even though I keep replaying I cannot figure out how to get my temp under 1.0C. I pulled it off once and probably never again lol

any city building with a good traffic simulation?

I bought it partially because I thought it would execute on this, and I am glad to be proven right! (Haven't had time to open up and play yet.)

Half-Earth Socialism: The Game
Got pretty far, surprised that I got a "me and the environmentalists failed to make the world a better place" picture at the end, given I had negative emissions, an ecstatic populace, and a message about how biodiversity was healing or something and Parliament trusted me completely by the time I died. Time to replay! Would get distracted from my life responsibilities again with this game.
::: spoiler spoiler speculations on why I got that picture Global temperature was still +1.2C or something, and I didn't finish the space upgrades. Will be back on my replay to see why!
EDIT: Okay, I got everyone ecstatic, global temperature +0.2C, negative emissions, biodiversity with two filled-in bars. Still could not finish space upgrades. Still gave me the "me and the environmentalists failed to make the world a better place" dialogue. I give up. :::

First-party Switch 2 games—including re-releases—all run either $70 or $80
I love having my decision not to buy a Nintendo Switch and stick to PC games validated.
Feel bad for all the Nintendo fans though, I get how you can fall in love with a franchise they make and want their stuff only to have "except it costs a ton" stuck on, so you'll have to skip for financial reasons and feel unhappy. It's a lot harder to abstain from something you actually care about and want, than something you are maybe mildly interested in.

Here is a monetization "cheat sheet" that the CEO posted on LinkedIn which is linked on Chosen's main page if you scroll down: https://i.imgur.com/ztjS4K7.jpeg
In the CEO's LinkedIn profile it says this:
Working closely with teams at NexusMods and beyond to build meaningful, sustainable experiences
If I had to guess the acquisition details are under some sort of NDA right now

Nintendo Is Already Punishing Switch 2 Users Over Piracy ‘Suspicions’
Reply in thread
Luckily at the moment they have a lot more upvotes than downvotes. Probably because they are providing information and aside from the "you are stupid for breaking (a likely-predictable) TOS and expecting nothing to happen" judgment, it's pretty neutral on passing judgment on the bigger argument at hand: whether this policy should be here in the first place.

American Truck Simulator is adding a road trip mode where you drive different vehicles, 'say, a powerful pickup or even a sports car'
Reply in thread
Watch Lemmy turn one of the few apolitical posts about something American into something political in 3… 2… 1…
Politics is important but sometimes I just want to play a video game without someone turning the conversation to politics when that wasn't the topic at hand at all. I'm super angry about all the things my country is doing now too, but I also sometimes want to enjoy what I have left instead of being constantly stressed about it and bringing up the horrors happening at every opportunity—especially with just a comment about if a truck driving sim that seems to be mostly just about driving will suddenly implement something political and unpleasant (when we know they probably will not, that's not the vibe they are going for) and no links to taking action. (Here are a few, albeit aimed at Americans.
On the other hand, people have to vent sometimes and I guess I need to build up tolerance and a thicker skin to that, even when it shows up in a place marked Games and not US Politics.

MultiVersus officially closes down and is delisted today
Reply in thread
Even if it doesn't work, I'd at least want to let people try and get practice doing something about a problem (even if that's just leaving a comment on social media to direct others to sign a petition that will eventually get lawmakers' attention with enough signatures based on that country's laws, because that still has more chance for good than yet another comment about X Thing Bad. Even though I agree with a lot of Lemmy's X Thing Bad takes), makes them more likely to do something in the future. At least they can walk away saying "I tried". Some people might see no guarantee of results for their time and think of it as time wasted, and that is their choice, but I don't really see a reason to say "that'll never work" without any offer of alternative. Most charitably, you are trying to save them time and disappointment, trying to prevent a "it didn't work, activism does not work, I'll never do anything like that again" attitude if it fails, but I think a lot of people are just seeing the comment as pointless negativity.

Nier Automata's Dev Was "Ordered" To Ignore What The West Thinks Of His Game
The way I'd think of this is "it wasn't made for you, simply made available to you in case you like it," and that's a perfectly valid way to approach making stuff. If there's a giant overseas audience, why not make them happy and profit at the same time, but if there is not because they hate it, well different audiences like different things and it is no big failure of yours to have an audience you weren't catering to dislike your work.

Sony considers further price rises, as it braces for £500m tariffs impact
Reply in thread
It's possible to be dismayed at price raises that don't affect you, because it will affect others. I was never in the market for a console and do not anticipate buying new electronics anytime soon, but I am sure that this will sadden others who find themselves priced out. Besides, I don't know what the future holds. Maybe an existing electronic of mine breaks and I find I need a replacement, so the price hikes will touch me.

WalkScape's (RuneScape inspired fitness MMORPG) developer here, we've now released support for smartwatches on iOS & a lot of new content, and we are accepting new players to the Closed Beta!
I heard about this on Reddit, glad to see it has made its way to the Fediverse. I am curious what you are using to develop this, since I've also been interested in making my own personal walking app (not going to be competition, only ever intended to release to myself and maybe a few friends).

Went and bought it once it got out of EA. Pleasantly surprised by it being under 2GB.

I never played Roblox and tend to be fairly out of the loop, and even I have heard about Roblox in connection with child exploitation. Hope those kids eventually get justice and their predators prevented from harming them.

Your comments made me curious what our threshold for "too new" is, my first guess being 5 years. (Thanks XKCD.)
It's actually
catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game
according to our sidebar. But you pose a good question if Early Access release counts as release, especially if it's been in EA for this long.
