"Disable adblocker"-thing on YouTube is back
Switched to piped/invidious. There are even a few good apps like Libretube or Freetube. No need to waste time with scripts and stuff.

Collective letter from game development companies: Turning off all IronSource and Unity Ads monetization until new conditions are reviewed
The problem isn't Unity, or even its CEO. The problem is greed. The problem is; they can dictate whatever they want because everyone depends on them. Use FOSS already. You should have done it long before this happened.

Trump Demands Biden Remove Ad of Him Insulting Dead Troops
Yeah and I wish we could remove Trump from this world. Not happening either. Fuck humanity, we all deserve what we'll get.

I just blocked the user in question as well as the whole community.
Don't know if it's the first time for this to happen, but I'm pretty sure it's not the last. Especially now that it's discussed, some trolls will board the train and do it, too.
Even just the slightest risk of some shit like this turning up on my feed is an absolute no-go.

It's all FOSS. Whoever gets doubts about the devs can check the source or have it checked by experts. They sell out or die? Switch to other frontends or forks. I'd never trust any dev blindly, but if I can choose between these ones and Google... well.

True. Facts won't change their views, no matter how much research went into it.
And even if they somehow end up being in the same spot as the "test subjects", it's other people's fault - preferably easily identifiable targets like minorities. Zero empathy, massive ego.

Would you use threads if it respected your privacy?
Nope. I'm boycotting META not only because of the privacy issues, but because of their history in general. I won't support such a fucked up corporation.

Well, shit. I liked them for being so open and communicative. Good thing I switched instances just right before that happened.

Not my instance (so I didn't vote), but I must say this is a very reasonable approach. I wish other instances would also consider these points.

Gamers. What was the game that got you into the hobby?
Doom, Wolfenstein 3D and Elite back in the mid-90s. Jagged Alliance 2 and Fallout 2 a few years later got me finally hooked.

The Kubrick Stare
Oh come on. They don't deserve to be in a row with this pouting pee-pee-face.
They were misfits, deluded psychopaths and guys being tormented by their friends.
The last one is just a grumpy old guy trying to look badass while realizing he farted a bit too hard in his diapers.

No, really, are you guys actually done?
Your life that boring for you to come up with the time and patience for posting this?
Jeez, you fit well into reddit.

Most of their stuff isn't even worth pirating. Just sink that ship and find better loot elsewhere.

Do you think lemmy would be as popular as reddit?
Reply in thread
This. The more popular it gets, the more people come, the more trolls and idiots are beneath them, the more toxic everything gets...
Advertisements and fake news will also skyrocket once the user bases are big enough to become adequate breeding grounds for them.

Don't forget about the privacy and copyright concerns. Scraping the internet for training data, copyrighted or not, and also logging every input for this purpose (and probably others).
A pretty significant con in my opinion.
