It's Time to Ditch Evernote for One of These Alternatives
Lots of mentions for Obsidian. I'll throw in my favorite for the past few years that's similar: Logseq! Check it out!

What movie(s) exceeded your expectation?
2 movies immediately come to mind, and I think it's because I went in with an expectation that the movie is gonna suck.
It's probably been 10 years since I watched either of those movies so I'm not sure how they have aged...

Is anyone else tired of “employee engagement”?
Funny enough, I'm about to receive the results of our latest employee survey. I have about 15 direct employees, and at least with the one we use, it's completely anonymous. To just see results, 11 people need to have responded. To see written results, 25 ppl need to have responded (so I'm not going to get to see written results). As a manager, I honestly don't care who wrote what...I genuinely want to improve the work environment to make everyone happier. Employee surveys aren't the only input I use for making things better, and I certainly can't make magic happen, but I use the results and trends of the survey to push hard on upper management for what people are asking for. In fact, I'd say the survey results are the single metric that reflects my effectiveness as a manager. It sure sucks if these surveys are being misused or ignored - why on earth would you want respond?? Happy people are proven to be more creative and innovative, plus its way more fun. If your manager doesn't care about that...all I can say is this manager doesn't represent the mentality of all managers - find a new job :-)

What can the 'average Joe' start hosting, that will change their life?

Quick question, don't want to highjack the thread. This looks interesting, but I don't understand why I couldn't just install it on my regular laptop running fedora. Why does it need it's own server?

YSK: Deer and rabbits "park" their babies and spend most of the day away from them. If you find a baby all alone, it is almost definitely not abandoned.
Never thought I'd be jealous of parenting techniques from a rodent. Rabbit parents get to JUST PEACE OUT FOR A BIT? Like, I get it...kids are shitty...but the organizational prowess it takes to just get a coffee with my wife away from the little terrors makes work seem easy.

Advice: accessing home network beyond home

Uhm, status update: I just signed up for tailscale, and I'm able to access my home server after about 2 mins from first logging into the tailscale website. Wow...you guys weren't kidding 🙃
So what should I do next?

Thanks! Regarding the trackball, I can't imagine not having it. I found it pretty natural from the start. When I'm stuck without it, I really notice when I have to move my hand between the keyboard and mouse. It's almost as if everything has the speed and convenience of a keyboard operation... And with that statement, I've just triggered the whole VIM community, haha

Big thanks to everyone that replied. Message received: ditch openVPN in favour of wireguard :-)

A message from /r/ErgoMechKeyboards
Really appreciate everything you have done, and I'm happy that we seem to have reconvened on a new platform or whatever this fediverse thing is called...still quite a bit to learn for me, but it's been a fun so far. It's been a good move! I vote we stay regardless of what reddit does :-)

Really appreciate the info, very helpful. The *seer's and *arr's are much more clear, thank you.
I'm still confused about indexers, jackett, nzb, and how alldebrid helps.
I'm running yunohost so subdomains are a snap, and already have jellyfin running.

YSK: Installing a bidet attachment to your toilet is super easy and probably cleaner than using toilet paper.
ok.....I'm intrigued. I've actually been using my kid's baby wipes because really, anything is better than dry TP. Looking at some options on Costco, seems the cheapy is just a hand-held thing for $80, then the seat-integrated ones are around $300 and up. Is the seat integration worthwhile? What about water temp? Is it basically a cold-shot to the butthole? That'll wake me up, no doubt.

That's hilarious...I legit thought it was a novelty miniature decoration...I'm still not entirely convinced I'm not being fooled, haha

What are your thoughts about Obsidian not being Open Source?
A bit off topic considering your post is mainly about open sourcedness, but I use Logseq, migrated from org-roam on emacs...I love it. I have no reference to obsidian, although it's often discussed as an alternative. I don't know if obsidian has this feature, but in logseq you can issue queries to your database...it's amazing. It is journal based, though I haven't found that to be a barrier.

Hit me with your sci fi books starter pack
Ok ok, I might not get a lot of support with this list, but SciFi is actually what turned me into an avid reader...now it's not just SciFi but also non fiction (gasp!). So the list below is somewhat the path I followed, with some mods
The list starts off with some quick, punchy brain candy then graduates into big ol' operas :-)

I'm just starting to learn about Usenet, alldebrid, sonarr, jellyseer etc. I'm not quite getting how it all fits together, though I've downloaded many a torrent. Anything you could recommend?
