Whats going on with my pc monitor?

It's an issue with VA panels starting cold. You probably notice that it's more common when the temperature in the room is cold.

If your monitor has a startup graphic when powered on, or its settings menu appears at the bottom of your screen/overlap with the affected area, you'll know the issue is with the panel and not your gpu/cables if the artifacts appear over top of the menu.

My MSI Optix G24C has the same issues (uses a VA panel manufactured by Samsung), and can take a couple min to warm up if the room is cold and hasn't been used in a while. The issue typically goes away in the summer/resolves itself faster.

Whitewashing The SS: The Attempt to Re-Write the History of Hitler’s Collaborators

This post mirrors similar posts made in /c/[email protected] and /c/[email protected] where the user making the post was trying to assert that Canada welcomes Nazi soldiers. You can skim my profile for comments I've made on those posts within the last 24hs if you want a bit of context.

Both of the original posts were deleted from their respective communities so trying to follow the comments leads to an error page informing you that the post could not be found.

Here are some screenshots I have of the users' partially censored usernames and the associated post titles which are very similar to the wording in the title used here (I'm using censored names because I'm unsure if naming users is against the rules).
lemmygrad user posting to /c/[email protected]

I'm guessing that this is getting pushed due to a recent incident involving a Canadian House of Commons speaker, and trolls have been trying to push Ukrainians as Nazis since then.

Exclusive: U.S. to send its first depleted uranium rounds to Ukraine

Reply in thread

Depleted Uranium has a half-life of ~4.5 billion years making it fairly safe to be around.

The real issue is that Uranium is a heavy metal but that's kind of a moot point since the alternatives are also heavy metals. The US isn't the first to donate DU round's either, The British Defense Ministry already confirmed that they would provide these rounds back in March, 2023.

It's also better to use fewer of the more effective rounds than needing to use more of the less effective alternatives in terms of spreading heavy metal around. They're only controversial because "radiation scary", and not because they're a heavy metal.

Have you checked that you haven't blocked the person posting?

Also, those posts in the signed out view all have the English tag set, you may need to go into your settings and add English to your selected languages. Keep Undetermined selected as a fallback for when people do not set a language for their posts/comments.

Am I the only one getting agitated by the word AI?

A lot of the comments I've seen promoting AI sound very similar to ones made around the time GME was relevant or cryptocurrency. Often, the conversations sounded very artificial and the person just ends up repeating buzzwords/echo chamber instead of actually demonstrating that they have an understanding of what the technology is or its limitations.

Ai generated trailer, the face around ~2:10 is pretty bad.

AI Generated Content Disclosure
The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

During the development and live service of the game, AI-based tools may be utilized to support in game visual content creation, marketing materials, live chat translation features, and partial in-game dialogue and script localization. In all such cases and regardless of the workflow, the final product is a reflection of our own development team's creativity and artistic expression.

A little more complicated than that, if you want to go to a community hosted on your instance (in your case lemmy.ml), you would go to https://lemmy.ml/c/asklemmy. This is different from the Ask lemmy hosted at lemmy.world.

To navigate to this community hosted on lemmy.world from your instance, you would instead use https://lemmy.ml/c/[email protected] <your_instance>/c/@<instance_hosting_community>

Using an "!" [email protected] lets you create a clickable link for other people to a specific community.

Text is federated between instances while images are hosted on the home instance assuming you didn't just embed an image from somewhere else like Imgur. I dont believe lemmy hosts any videos, but that might just be an instance admin thing.

Whitewashing The SS: The Attempt to Re-Write the History of Hitler’s Collaborators

The issue is with conflating people from an event which occurred in the 1950s and associating it with groups of people alive currently, to me these two things are distinctly different from each other, and I wouldn't link these two things together.

Events related WWII feel irrelevant anything going on today, it's been ~75 years since then and the majority of people from that time period are already dead or >90 years old. Their actions were not influenced by people born decades after the fact, and it feels incorrect to link the two groups together. Multiple generations of people have been born in that time span further distancing people from older ideologies.

By David Pugliese Over the years some Ukrainian Canadians have staunchly defended the 14th SS Division Galicia. They have falsely claimed that Ukrainians who served in the division were conscripted, when in reality 80,000 volunteered and 13,000 were selected. Other apologists argue that the divisio...

With the title of the article/post, and the summary shown on desktop, it looked like this was just another post associating Canada with accepting Nazis/implying that people with Ukranian nationality are Nazis due to the phrasing of the title being similar to the titles used by the lemmygrad/lemmynsfw users.

It's my fault for skimming the rest of the post body, it looked that was a generic image caption crediting a photographer, followed by a short paragraph copied from the article.

Zelensky and Canadian Parliament Paise Nazi SS Officer

Are you that same person from lemmygrad that posted the news article from 25-years ago?

There are better sources you could have linked to than a bias tabloid with "Mixed" reporting accuracy.

https://globalnews.ca/news/9983103/anthony-rota-ukraine-nazi-unit-apology/ Global has a slightly left-center bias with "High" reporting accuracy.

“The Speaker is responsible for this chamber. He invited him of his own accord and he made the decision himself to recognize him. Neither the government of Canada nor the delegation of Ukraine had any knowledge of this.”

While I would expect some basic level of competence in being able to background check someone, it isn't reasonable to assume that people automatically know the background of someone they've most likely never heard of before.

Also, going by Rule 4, your post title does not match the Article's title, even viewing your article from Archive.org shows that the title you gave this post never matched the title of your linked article.
