A French small business owner has his video game store looted

Reply in thread

Tbh the amount of bystanders astounds me, like I cannot imagine being there, seeing that guy flying kick someone with their back turned and not immediately grabbing and pummeling him.

This is coming from someone who doesnt think rioting as protest is wrong--but it's really obvious why the videogame store is being looted/vandalized instead of things that actually matter.

Don't fix the problem just change the parameters

I think removing everything that kids have a bit of a hard time trying to grasp just teaches kids to give up if anything isn't immediately apparent. Its not as much of a waste of time as cursive, and it's to be taught to think in another way.

I think that kids "learning how to learn" is really important, especially with how these AI models are stunting like a whole generation of people.

This is minor, but I also think less things need electronic displays/components that are hard to recycle and increase dependency on exploiting X country for Y resource. Its also cool to just be able to build a physical mechanism which digital clocks have no real feasible option to do

How it feels

I mean I sold 4 years of my life to the military to not have to take loans out, so I get the gut reaction

The main cause of the student loan issue is the commodification of education. Everyone wanted to go to college and at first it was optional but then as more people did it it became a requirement, then they realized they can charge more and more for education that is worse and worse because a good chunk of people dont actually want to learn / be there. They're just there for the paper that'll let them get jobs and not be unemployed, or even just to say that they went.

I look around and people are playing damn Pokémon Showdown in class, there was that one scandal of an influencer girl who was the daughter of someone important that bought her admission to Stanford(?) and would stream literally about how she didn't care about education she just wanted the college experience.

Hot take: Not everyone should be going to college, High School should just prepare people better. Even if we forgive all loans right now it doesn't fix the issue. Instead of your problem it will just be your kids' problem

I understand but I literally just left Nogales to visit my stepfather and during my week there there were so many campaign ads. The only thing he told me about them is that candidates from all positions from Mayor to Governor and up wind up dead all the time.

Apparently it's really common and my father had a similar reaction to the top comment. Yes it's scary but it's something that the government needs to take precautions for

Anon wants to talk about video games

I feel like the rise of live service games and rogue-likes that are based around incremental progression definitely shifted the status quo to everyone having like 1 game, maybe 2, where they spend most of their time. Every game seems to demand you commit more and more time.

The only exception I can think of is Paradox Grand Strategy type games (which is my secondary "main" game)

This happened to me at least 3 times.

Ngl, i love linux so much more and would never go back to windows but right now my audio jack doesn't work for my new pc build.

I've contacted the manufacturer of the motherboard, they say to try Windows

I've posted on linux questions subreddit, nothing replied

I've posted on EndeavourOS forums, got views, not replies.

I've gone so into the weeds I'm trying to remap pins because I'm assuming the manufacturer relies on something Windows pre-configures so audio will play but it never makes it out of the port but it's been weeks and I can't solve it.

Again, I'd never go back to windows but damn do I feel stranded rn.

Data can be hurtful

There is "ELO" in these dating apps,

Swiping a lot at a low success rate makes your elo drop and you appear less in general, and if you do appear it'll probably be to another low elo person.

I don't like dating apps but if I had to advise, delete and remake the account to be "fresh" elo with no history and say no atleast 90% of the time. With the 10% being what you think is a decent shot.

Anime Recommendations

Reply in thread

I thought about this a lot the other day.

Its "justification" is in that era girls go married off even younger than that.

That monk dude has to turn away a girl who's.. 14(?) after she asked him to take her with him and that she'd bear his children.

Personally, in that setting I think it's fine as long as they are not like fanservice to the viewer and its actually plot relevant. The monk asking her originally is more for humor as it was clearly shown as ridiculous and when it was more "legal" he took it more seriously and shot it down. That kind of humor is definitely a product of its era (wasn't the age of consent in Japan like 12 until less than a few decades ago?)

Also regarding Kagome, this anime was written by a woman and one of the main demographics is schoolgirls who want their heart to flutter by imagining themselves in a pseudo-isekai. Not saying it makes it right but it personally doesn't bother me because I get why stories like that exist coughTwilightcough

EDIT: The constitution set it to 13. But most prefectures up-ed it to 16 in recent decades apparently

Fight for an Independent California.

Was in the Marines before, hated it and left to go to school. Would never think about joining back up. However I actually unironically would be willing to fight for California to be its own country, America is already on decline and society is fucked in general.

Aside from that maybe I'd expatriate and go to my mother's home country in Central America and try to improve things there.

Anon dates a 19 y/o

Reply in thread

I was barely 23 and am currently dating the same girl I met who was 19. (Its about to be 2 years woo!)

I had just gotten out of military so most girls in my classes were 3-4 years younger and I wasn't interested in dating (I like women a bit older than me) but she wreckingballed into my life because she saw something she wanted and actively attempted to get it.

This is the best relationship I've ever had but I won't deny that sometimes the response I get to something serious and wanting to plan ahead is met by my partner suggesting I move into the city (alone) to be closer just so she knows what it's like to have a boyfriend in the city.

Her focuses right now are being young and getting her excitement now before she has to square away. She used to think everyone has a stoner era and that was just what people did, so she was surprised how anti-drug/vice I was. The mental divide is definitely something I would warn people about when dating with age differences.

I dont understand the guys that date fresh 18 year olds in their near 30's, I know its legal but I genuinely dont understand what a 30 year old would find so interesting about an 18 year old other than just trying to bang/control them.

Why install other Linux ISOs on Steam Deck?

I'm a cs student rn and there's a lot of stuff that I'm learning specifically with UNIX and Linux related things. I use my steamdeck as a daily driver (literally sit in the front of class, pull out my steamdeck with my jsaux case and Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo)

There's some issues with the walled garden. The way they do system updates is basically by having system stuff on its own partition and overwriting it. It functions well for a "casual" person that doesn't care about linux that much.

The issue is that I have to install things sometimes. Even things as simple as an OpenVPN package so I can use my nordvpn. Updates sometimes will wipe things I install in package manager. Other things (like Xelatex) are simply too big to fit in this partition so I have to install lighter packages even if I want to use the whole thing (Math formulas need a LOT of symbols).

This has actually led me to see if it's worth it to install a third party OS. Bazzite was a good contender but I like Arch with the KDE desktop so ultimately I would just want a steamOS that I could install more things on.

Currently I'm looking into how I can achieve this. I don't know if I should just enlarge the partition holding the system files, or if there is some pacman settings that I could have packages installed elsewhere and automatically symbolically linked in /user or wherever it needs

You are born 250,000 years ago, one of the very first modern humans to roam the earth. What's on your to-do list?

Not sure how accurate my memory of the modern world map would be for that far back but depending on "where I spawned in" I would try and migrate to like ideal farmland or somewhere I know is good to build up.

If I was near Iberia I'd probably try for Cordoba.... Western America, I'd go for San Francisco or anywhere near Lake Tulare... I'm sure there's more than I am remembering right now.

I wouldn't have to worry about organized religion having immense crusades and could carve out a little kingdom.

Try to make a modest "fortress" out of ashlar blocks or anything I can make primitively. Try to find a way to record as much "hints" towards technological progress for my descendants to follow.

Fertilizer, Germs, Animal Husbandry, Public Works (Dams), Canning, Gunpowder (not idea of gun just explosives, but they'll probably weaponize it), steam power, oil, electricity, refrigeratation, concept of computers.

It'll probably just have to be drawings but if I can find a cool gal and learn her language enough to roll with it then it'll just have to be that, No point in writing it in English.

If I can actually get to the point of building a steam/wobbler engine that would probably be my life goal.

Throw in ancient technologies that are cool like Yakchals(?) and what not to actually survive to that point.

Recommendation engine: Downvote any game you've heard of before

One Way Heroics+

Semi-Rogue-like RPG, flee away from the darkness on the leftside of the screen, try and defeat demonlord and save the world. (Multiple endings)

One of my favorite games ever, guy made his own engine.

It does have design flaws, don't get me wrong. But this is is really novel and has enough content to get somewhat deep into it.

Eventually you start seeing the same things but for essentially a one man team it's really impressive.

Nintendo can disable your Switch 2 for piracy in the U.S., but not in Europe, as confirmed by its EULA

Reply in thread

I get how it can be shocking that someone doesn't know as much as you about something that seems like common knowledge to you,

But tbh I'm like pretty certain the firmware is mostly the same, and it can't be that different if Switch 1 games can be upgraded to Switch 2 games. I doubt they went back and ported every single game to a new system if it wasn't easy to do so. So tbh I don't think its going to be that long for emulators to come out.

I actually wanted a PS2 port because it works with interrupts rather than polling but they aren't really included anymore.

I feel like they don't make boards for people like me who want small boards with a super niche port.

When a MoDT Mini-ITX board comes out with a PS2 port I will buy that instantly
