The cycle of the day...
Yeah, same here. Lemmy sort of scratches the itch, but it's a big itch.

Reddit censoring information about kbin
Maybe it's nothing, but Reddit seems particularly sensitive towards kbin.

Yeah, I'll admit there is the excitement of having a new toy and figuring out how it all works. That takes away some of the boredom or time I'd be scrolling reddit.

Electronic Frontier Foundation shouted out Lemmy, Kbin, and Mastodon in their Reddit coverage today: What Reddit Got Wrong
Sadly, Reddit has likely won the short-term battle. But hopefully, this Blackout raises awareness of the need for alternatives. Whether it be Lemmy/Kbin, some up-and-coming site like Squabbles or Tildes, or something not yet created, the seeds of migration off Reddit have been planted. If Reddit has such apathy for its communities pre-IPO, just imagine how bad it will be post-IPO when they are dealing with Wallstreet directly.

Reddit CEO tells employees that subreddit blackout “will pass”
It's his self-assuredness that bothers me most. If his attitude towards his community (or product rather) are this bad pre-IPO just wait until after and they have to keep announcing revenue growth to Wallstreet every quarter.

Reddit activated a word filter that whenever you say "fuck spez", your comment won't show up for anyone else. I just tested it on ModCoord. they're also deleting spez memes from the subs they nuked lo
Seems like they have plenty of money to spend on THESE enhancements.

How the beehaw defederation affects us
I guess I'm glad I picked Lemmy.one -- the Switzerland of US-bases Lemmy instances :)

(Mildly NSFW) Welp, I guess that's it. The single photo that got my ~10-year-old, 60k+ karma Reddit account "permanently suspended."
Sorry for your loss, but what a fabulous way to go out! Bravo!

what are your favorite pixel games and why?
I'm not sure if it is truly considered a pixel art game, but I still love Terraria.

Lemmy feed glitch

Looks like the fix is targeted for 0.18 when websockets are removed. I'm not sure this fix should wait that long though since this issue has both usabily and performance impacts.

Is there a way to turn off auto-update/refresh on the Lemmy feed?

Keep in mind that the Android App, Jerboa, doesn't have search functionality yet.

r/london's thoughts on the blackout
Very well said. I agree -- it's not charging for the API that's the issue, although that is what the media usually reports. It's the ridiculous price, the poor timing, lack of parity in their own tools, refusal to negotiate, and their dismissive attitude towards everyone.

Why did you choose your instance?
Knowing that Beehaw and Lemmy.ml were overloaded, I chose the next biggest one in my country at the time, which was Lemmy.one.

Y'all, I'm using the Kbin app. Did everyone know about this? I was visiting Kbin on a Chrome browser on my phone, got a pop up asking me if I wanted to install, and zip here I am.
Is this just the PWA (progressive web app)? If so, just FYI it's not a true native app -- more like a downloadable version of the normal webapp that you can pin and run like it is a app. I installed it as well (for my kbin account) and it works well enough as a good stop-gap.

I think 0.18 is still in release candidate state. Lemmy.one just upgraded to 0.17.4 in the last day or two. I assume the admin will wait until 0.18 is stable. I'm on Lemmy.one in Jerboa and it seems to work fine for me.

Any good detective games you all would recommend?
I haven't played either of these, but they sound very cool and have been on my wishlist for a while:

Local/All feeds over-refreshing
It's a known bug that is supposed to fixed in an upcoming update (maybe 0.18). There are a few other threads that have more details.

I use a screen protector and case with a pop socket. My phone is 4 years old and still in good condition. The screen protector has some small scratches but not enough to be worth replacing.
