I unironically do something similar to this. In my area, the only options are a dogshit local WISP, Starlink/other satellite, or (where possible) cellular.

I am one of the "lucky" people who are able to use cell for my internet, however whether it's the cell company having a craptastic network, software/hardware bugs on the my customer equipment, or a combination of both, there is only ONE cell tower I can connect to which yields a useful connection.

All other towers result in the equipment failing to connect to the tower, connecting but failing to get an internet connection, or only yielding download speeds 5Mbit of less.

I have found that by shoving sheet metal around my ISP's equipment, I can quite easily block off the non-functional towers and ensure they're never connected to. I don't think speeds are any better, but it does help with reliability.

I fix stuff because I can't fix myself.

I have an old tractor, and the manuals for it were unavailable except for one company which scanned them, put their own cover on it, and demanded $20 for access to the PDF (over $60 for printed).

Rather than give them a dime, I located original copies of each and every book associated, purchased them (only around $25 each), scanned them myself, and uploaded my versions to Archive. Now my copies are the top result when you search the names of the manuals.

Fuck those guys.

Nextcloud is more featureful (more apps like notes and hardware 2fa support). That is currently holding me to NC.

OpenCloud (fork of OCIS not original OC) is very similar when it comes to core functionality, but is missing those few apps I do not want to let go of.

Also note that nextcloud stores files in a very natural manner, where your file names and directories are stored the exact same on disk as on the interface. Opencloud does not do that. This is particularly handy if one day the app just explodes and refuses to run. With NC, you can just copy the files off the disk. Not so easy with OC.

Seagate's error rate values (IDs 1, 7, and 195) are busted. Not in that they're wrong or anything, but that they're misleading to people who don't know exactly how to read them.

Edit: As for the first image, I don't see any attributes in #2 which match with it. It's possible there is an issue with the drive, but it could also be something to do with the cable. I can't tell with any confidence.

Edit Edit: I compared the values to my own Seagates and skimmed a manual. While I can't say for sure what the error reported is in relation to, it is absolutely not to be ignored. If your return period ends very soon, stop here and just return it. If you have plenty of time, you may optionally investigate further to build a stronger case that the drive is a dud. My method is to run a test for bad blocks using this alternative method (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Badblocks#Alternatives), but the smart self-test listed would probably also spit errors if there are issues. If either fail, you have absolute proof the drive is a dud to send alongside the refund.

No testing/proof should be required to receive your refund, but if you can prove it's a dud, you may just stop it from getting repacked and resold.

It's exceedingly rare, but there's one case where a game can disappear from your Steam library: keys.

Game developers/publishers have the ability to revoke keys at any point, and that can result in games disappearing from your library.

I'm yet to hear of Valve themselves making a purchase inaccessible, but I have had keys get revoked. For example, free Gleam keys that add shovelware to your library.

Even games that Valve banned from sale on Steam can be activated and added to your account using keys. I believe that people who purchased the game also get to keep their purchase even if it's later banned from sale.

Hey there. I don't have anything to say which is actually helpful. I'm just here to say that you are throwing yourself into the deep end a bit since authentication / access control is actually one of the more advanced topics there is.

Once you do get it figured out, you'll look back and it'll make sense. I don't use Cloudflare services for my projects, so I can't actually help you. Auth/access control settings vary highly depending on what you chose to use (cloudflare, tailscale, netbird, etc),

Having skimmed over the other guy's PDF, I'll say that where Cloudflare provides instructions, follow those over his steps 1 and 5 (since if anything will be outdated and not work/no longer recommended, those would be it), but I otherwise don't have complaints. As with everything computers, everyone has their own way of doing things which they insist is the correct way. I'd do things very differently, but I also won't say there's anything wrong with their way.

I recently moved from X11 (BSPWM) to Wayland (Hyprland) and while I did get rid of a very annoying bug with bspwm, it did come with a few of its own quirks/annoyances:

• Hyprland does not yet have the ability to load ICC profiles
• Marking a monitor as variable refresh rate capable forces my GPU to idle at maximum clocks and draw 100W (this one really makes me wtf, but it is nvidia so idk who to blame here)
• Dragging and dropping can be very unreliable for some windows (IIRC, only with Chromium based applications so far)
• Some apps deadlock when attempting to read the clipboard (Again, only Chromium based applications so far)
  • EDIT: Maybe a recent update fixed it, however I also just switched wl-clip-persist from regular or primary mode (I can't remember) to both. Either way, the issue appears to be gone now.

Maybe if I wasn't a masochist and installed something normal, such as KDE, I wouldn't have any of these issues. However, I apparently and unfortunately get great pleasure out of plopping my testicles onto an anvil and smashing them like a blacksmith forges raw iron.

Rust, however, is cool. I like Rust. I can't say that I approve of replacing everything under the sun with a Rust rewrite for no good reason, but the language itself is fine.
