There is a reason why Linux is my main operating system of choice -- and it's not because of the freedom.
My favorite system message is GRUB's "bailing out, you're on your own. Good luck"

Dark mode is really annoying
I remember reading a while ago that there are people who stand up before wiping, and people who wipe before they stand up, and neither camp can fathom how the other does it. This is giving me that same energy.

Looks the same to me
That's because Elon Musk invented the the X11 windowing system and Richard Stallman stole it from him, clearly.

What would happen if I were driving on 5th gear at 120 km/h and then switched to first gear?
I believe that's called a "money shift."
Because when you do it, it ends up costing a lot of money because it can grenade engines, transmissions, or both

rule :wq
A: you're wrong, Vim over Emacs every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
B: what's so damned hard about alt+f4, open up Google, spend the next two weeks googling Vim lessons and Vim tutors and reading length articles about vim commands, and then finally coming back to Vim just to type :wq?

Should you never make a root partition anymore?
I only separate out /home, /boot, and I usually have a separate /steam partition because I have a separate terabyte drive just for games.

What do you mean, "your own country with no fireworks?" Listen, buddy, the whole world celebrates the Fourth of July, when Jesus descended from Heaven to bring freedom l the idea of Freedom and the Constitution to our founding fathers!

Why !politics and !news are US centric and then we have !worldnews for the rest of the world? Am I the only one finding this slightly arrogant?
It's because everything is American politics. There's only two kinds of people in this world: Americans, and Americans who don't yet know they're American. We're just giving the Americans who don't yet know their own little space so they don't annoy us

That's right up there with my mom telling me "get a job and you won't have time or energy to be depressed" when I told her I was depressed and wanted to see a counselor as a teen.

[@politics](https://lemmy.ml/c/politics) What do you folks think about throwing a former president in prison?
I think it sets a horrible precedent. We'll never be able to get people into politics if we start holding them accountable for their crimes!

A fat chance and a slim chance are the same thing
I've always loved Mace Windu telling someone "your chances come in two sizes: slim and fat" in an old Star Wars Novell called Shatterpoint.

A ‘Holy Spirit’ intervention will make the US more ‘moral’, says CEO of a multi-billion dollar food company
Any CEO who opens their mouth about morals should be dragged into the street and shot for criminal hypocrisy.

What is your favorite objectively bad movie?
Hell Comes to Frogtown.
It's an eighties B-movie starring Rowdy Roddy Piper that has a very "started out as a porno before they realized it was even too cheesy and ridiculous for eighties porn and turned it into a sci-fi flick" quality to it, but I love the shit out of that movie and will happily watch it over and over again.
Also, the Super Mario Bros movie. Not the new one, the nineties shitfest with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo.

Which car to purchase to escape surveillance?
Rollerblades or skates. Absolutely no surveillance/tracking (except for the external shit that no one can get away from) and you build a fantastic ass!

I have a lower-mid tier (Ryzen7 2700 or 2700x, I don't exactly remember right now, Nvidia GTX 1650, 16gigs of RAM,) and I can game just fine at 1080p. Granted I'm not exactly worried about 4K or 666 FPS or whatever the hardcore gamers are into these days, but most games work well with proton and steam. Some even run better through proton than they do in Windows natively.

Because people in power need excuses to hit people they don't like without having to pay weregild for it. That's it, that's the entire purpose of laws. The whole "protecting society" theory is a convenient smokescreen that we've all bought into through generations upon generations of Stockholm syndrome and the fact that we all also want to hit people and be justified in doing so from time to time.
