Brown University agrees to hold Israel divestment vote after pressure from student protesters

Reply in thread

Brown also owns a large portion of the nicer parts of providence. They’ve been around since the 1700s so that’s how they got so much property and money in the first place. I agree with almost everything you said except the fact that it’s an Ivy League and they’re specifically meant to be prohibitively expensive so you have to be rich or brilliant enough to get a scholarship there. My girlfriend got a full scholarship for Harvard from her government and it is not easy for anyone who doesn’t have money, even with a full scholarship.

If we were talking about the state schools charging close to as much as Harvard and Brown, then I’d fully agree with you.

30% of Children Ages 5-7 Are on TikTok

Probably plenty. Tik tok is just the biggest owned by a foreign government that also is showing pretty immediate extreme negative effects on children’s attention spans and learning capabilities.

But people are still gonna whine because they’re 25 year olds who need to watch 80 videos of unboxing shoes in 4 minutes . That’s really the only pro tik tok argument there is.

Came to Lemmy after the APIcolypse, got sick of the ragebait, went back to Reddit, got frustrated by the bots and monetization

I’m educated enough on politics though. I want my free time to be spent learning about random animals, Legos, rocks, Ancient Rome, not the latest dumb shit trump did. That’s wild take to think you can’t play video games, read a book, run with your dog without having to think about politics 24/7. If you truly believe that, see a therapist, that’s seriously not healthy.

Nah, even as a liberal, I do hate that all the top stuff on Lemmy seems to be political. It’s not surprising, it’s just much harder to make your entire feed just super niche interests. Like I’m able to make my Reddit fun by just following animal, Lego, plant, history, science subreddits and having zero news stuff pop up. If you do that here, you will be bored fast.

I’m just returning to try again after the latest generation of destroying Reddit, hopefully it is better than before and I am surprised.

Believe me, I’m praying for lemmy to catch up and be able to self sustain content. I’m fully on anything’s team that brings back what Reddit was 15 years ago.

Wtf? You see nothing wrong with your first two sentences??? “It’s great at disseminating information. The Chinese government learns how I think then starts to show me propaganda they want that will align with my opinions so they can drive how I think and what I learn in the future”

That’s fucking wild that you’re saying all of this is a positive thing.

It really doesn’t set a bad precedent forcing a foreign adversary to have less control over the US population. We should really force the sale of a lot of Chinese properties in the US as well. A foreign government should not have so much control over rental and housing prices in the US.

Why are you pro foreign adversary controlling the daily lives of Americans? It’s a very odd stance to take and openly say unless you’re not American obviously.

YouTube keeps serving this obnoxious ~5m ad

Just pay the $10 for ad free. It’s a shitty answer, but one of the only services that’s still worth it if you use it enough.

YouTube is the only streaming service I pay for at all and haven’t had to deal with ads in years

$10-14 (whatever it is) per month for music, podcasts, informational vids/diy, etc. Then just pirating any shows is the only way to do it nowadays. No ads and still exponentially cheaper than tv 20 years ago which was pretty much 50% ads.
