Meta contractor fires 1,100 AI trainers after they revealed Ray-Ban glasses recorded private and intimate footage

It's not their fault so that's kinda sad.

Now some other contractors in some other country are gonna look at it obviously. Not solving anything.

The problem I see is that there's more and more support for mass surveillance. Many countries in the EU are totally ok with chatcontrol, some countries now want to forbid anonymous social media etc. It's insane.

‘Who Wants to Live Like This?’ Locals Fume as Meta AI Data Center Upends Entire Community

The threat of trucks crashing into schools isn’t the only problem that the data center has brought. Local residents Joseph and Robin Williams told WWNO that they’ve noticed their tap water is frequently rust colored since Meta started building the data center, and they say their electricity frequently goes off for hours on end with no warning.

Wow you'd expect this in a third world country, not a place that should have standards 🙄 And is the richest in the world.

Meet the AI workers who tell their friends and family to stay away from AI

I work with AI and use it personally, but I have my own servers running local models which solves tons of privacy concerns. The inaccuracy is another problem but not a big one for me as I know it and will simply fact check. Also, I don't really use it for knowledge anyway. Just to filter news to my interest, help with summaries and translation etc.

People use AI as some all-knowing oracle but an LLM is not meant for that at all.

Ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt booed after AI remarks at Arizona commencement

There is a fear in your generation that the future has already been written, that the machines are coming, that the jobs are evaporating, that the climate is breaking, that politics are fractured, and that you are inheriting a mess that you did not create.

This is true, it's not just AI. The world is kinda screwed right now. It feels like it's much more so than in the 80s when nuclear war was looming and we were poorer.

Schmidt is saying the above statement so that he can then break it down and weaken it but he is one of the major causes of the world's problems right now. Even the broken politics is caused by social media.

He acknowledged that their fears were “rational” and encouraged them to adapt and to shape how AI will be used in the future – rather than for that to shape them.

I do think AI will displace jobs and I doubt most of them will actually be replaced with different jobs. There's just going to be too much displacement too quickly. And that will make people very angry. Rightly so. Companies don't really exist to make rich people even more money. They exist to enable our lives and society. If they no longer do there's no more reason for them to exist.

The Engineer Who Tried to Put Age Verification Into Linux

Reply in thread

Also, they will use it as a means to lock content they don't want. Like in some jurisdictions it's already forbidden to share any kind of LGBTQ information even medical with minors.. Even in EU, like Hungary. Clearly this age verification will be used for this too. And people not willing to age verify will be locked out too.

It's part of their campaign of forcing conservative 'values' onto everyone.

Mullvad seems interesting, I might switch to it.

I moved away from it for two reasons:

  • They dropped port forwarding which really helps with torrents
  • They dropped OpenVPN, I need that because I have a router that has it built in with hardware acceleration, it doesn't do any wireguard

I moved to proton which still does all these things.

Of course these points might not matter to you but I just wanted to point it out
