In a hearing on data centers, a resident of Tyrone Township, Michigan, asked a question: Have you signed a non-disclosure agreement? The majority of officials refused to answer
Good for her!
Meanwhile in Europe… the European Union passed a law recently banning national governments from disclosing to the public a list of environmental data about data centers. Europeans can access aggregate info, but specifics about the environmental impact of any datacentre in particular is now secret.

The EU Commission's "Follow us" links no longer include X. The first one is now Mastodon
Excellent!
I had filed an EU Ombudsman complaint about the European Parliament incessantly pushing X and other US big tech platforms on its website.

As an united Europe we can overcome all problems
EU Member States decided on Wednesday—while citizens were literally dropping dead from extreme heat—that “green finance” should include companies engaged in fossil fuel expansion (eg new oil drilling). Something Surprising Happens When Bus Rides Are Free
Reply in thread
What if you drink alcohol or use recreational drugs? You can still take the bus and won’t endanger anyone (unless you’re totally off your head). Drink/drugged drivers are a danger to everyone.

What’s the likelihood that Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano can tell effectively if someone is surrendering or is an innocent bystander?

Kudos to Anthropic for holding the line
OpenAI's Sam Altman says today that they're gonna take Anthropic's place on DoW classified networks (https://xcancel.com/sama/status/2027578652477821175#m).
Still, Anthropic being designated a "supply chain risk" is good news, as it means Claude cannot officially be used anymore by the Pentagon and by all of its suppliers. That's massive.

Preaching non violence protects the state
Depends what you mean by preaching non-violence. If it includes conscientious objectors supporting other soldiers to quit, then I disagree. There’s plenty of that happening right now in the US, Russia, Ukraine, and elsewhere. They are the biggest threat to the state and to capitalism

Mastodon.world cancels famous German author Kazim's posts - now he left Mastodon completely
Interesting article about him here — https://www.dangerousspeech.org/counter-speech-case-studies/hasnain-kazim
He’s doing Mastodon a favour. He can always return to anywhere on the fediverse. Complaining that one moderator on one Mastodon instance was mean isn’t news, but maybe it is if it’s a journalist. Good for him.
