In ancient Greek, the ending -es is pronounced eez, eg Heracles is hair-ah-cleez. So, ironically, it comes out like they have Italian accents. "You rip-a deez?" and "you men'-a deez?"

DHS Said They Searched Man Who Wiped GrapheneOS Phone for Child Abuse Material. They Lied

I think the point was when you use the distress code, it loads a fresh profile and wipes the old one, not to have the two layers both present. If they have possession of the phone and the data is there to be found, they probably will find it. The key is to wipe it all, while making it look like nothing got removed.

Yield depends greatly on the shield and laser settings. The only reason that one instance goes the way it does is because the shield were set to protect from a single direction, at full power, and the lasers were randomly sweeping the ground at maximum power trying to blindly roast stragglers. The single direction setting on the shield carried the most weight, usually the energy would be roughly evenly divided in all directions. In more standard fights with average shield use and laser settings, you are going to get a blast closer to a fragmentation grenade than a nuke. The biggest problem is it will happen at a completely random point along the beam, so it still isn't an attractive proposition.

The secret to dieting
Reply in thread
It is true that diet is directly responsible for the vast majority of weight regulation, but exercise is just as important in an indirect manner. 99% of the time you aren't going to burn enough calories to make a significant difference, but regular exercise has significant effects mentally, several of which contribute to make people much more likely to keep on a diet. IIRC, there was a study that showed it being a bigger factor in weight loss, because people who diet without exercise are far more likely to drop the diet, while people who start with just exercise are more likely to pick up and stick with a diet later.

The setup is the same as another joke, where the second person asks for H2O too, which the bartender parses as H2O2, and gets served poison.

We don't know what our boogers smell like - it's the default smell for us.
As someone dealing with an incredibly stubborn post nasal drip, I can unfortunately confirm I know what my snot smells and tastes like, as it was permanently on my breath for several days when it was at its worst.

IIRC it is actually mostly from algea. A small amount from some fern-like plants. By the time trees existed, they were being broken down by bacteria.

I mean, there was k8nd of a whole event that lead to a massive super powered civil war where Cap lead the charge on the "rebel," side. The movie didn't do it justice, at all, but still had Cap on the anti-government interference side.

Lol, no, that stuff was catching on at least 15 years ago, and was a massive meme before the pandemic. The "what are you doing step bro," meme is from 2018, and the industry had already gone hard in that direction for a while before that.

Fairly common in lots of places to shower every other day. So ling as you aren't doing manual labor or working out and making yourself gross, showering every day can actually be detrimental for stripping away too many oils, especially for your hair, but can also cause dry skin. I'm with OP on this one, gotta shower every day in summer, but in cooler months I'm an every other day guy.

Time is relarive to your frame of reference. You are always the source of your own frame of reference, so you can never feel the effect of time dilation on yourself. At worst, it would look like the universe outside the horizon started to accelerate to unimaginable speeds. But you would never feel trapped in an unending, at worst that is simply what it would look like to us.

Comey Pleads Not Guilty and Launches Scorched Earth Defense
Reply in thread
That is not the origin of the term. It comes from a desperate act of defense intending to leave an attacker you can't beat in open combat with nothing to forage or pillage, forcing them to rely solely on their over growing supply train. Most armies would only ship in supplemental food and supplies while largely living off the land.

This was exactly the explaination from the old Exoanded Universe/Legends in Star Wars. The most sophisticated piece of any fighter was their EWAR suite. Otherwise fighters would be wiped out from well beyond visual ramge by capital ships' point defense systems, and it's why they needed to get so close so their sensors could power through the jamming to get missile locks on other fighters.
