Discord Shuts Down Servers for Switch Emulators Suyu & Sudachi; Disables Lead Developers Account As Well

Reply in thread

Also let me emphasize this: for every discord server shut down like this, there are 100+ servers with almost the same purpose that still exist and will continue to for at least the next 3y.

you completely missed the point here:

the issue that those aren't around NOW, the issue is that they WILL inevitably disappear eventually and every shred of knowledge platformed there will be irretrievably lost to the void.

discord is a black hole for information:

it sucks information in and deletes it from existence.

that's why it's bad.

the time frame doesn't really matter here.

How could the EU do this??

Reply in thread

the UK cannot be included, because they aren't a Schengen-member and the EU doesn't want customs checks on their train lines...

it's entirely up to the UK what they do with their rails within their borders.

and as was already pointed out:

there already IS a connection between the EU and the UK!!

the new plans are largely for connections between capitals of EU countries and major population centers, both of which already have rail connections in the UK.

so what do you expect the EU to do about the rail network in the UK?

I want to feel like a bad-ass wizard

noita is insane and has absolutely zero handholding. it's truly hardcore and kinda souls-like in difficulty/lore, but truly excellent!

magicraft is the king in casual spell crafting, very good game to play a bit after work, can call it quits anytime and pick it back up again. just had it's full launch as well and might still be -20% (about 12€)

fictorum is fairly unique, because it's first-/third-person and 3D, and also very good with an intuitive spell system and a little bit of indie game jank

there's no contradiction, because the developer does not matter. that's the entire point of FOSS.

it could be written by a literal nazi (not that there's a big difference between brown and red fascists) and it wouldn't matter one bit.

that's the entire beauty of FOSS!

we ALL own the code.

if Dessalines ever stops developing it, anyone can take over.

if Dessalines implements code the community at large doesn't like, anyone can create a fork and change that specific part and continue from there.

we can see exactly what the code does, and can create new versions at any point.

that was always the reason behind decentralized, open source networks:

nobody can own it.

i mean...going to the moon be expensive

the u.s. spent about 96 billion on launch vehicles alone so getting stretching those 5 billion as far they did is pretty impressive in comparison!

sure, it's taking longer than musk claimed, but pretty much everyone else said from the very beginning that musk's timeline is unrealistic...

god i hate that idiot....spaceX could be so much better at what it does without him...

that's because they are forced to by the yt algorithm: you flat out cannot run a business on yt without resorting to clickbait titles, stupid thumbnails, and a bit of sensationalization, because the algorithm will deprioritize your video and unfairly limit your viewership if you don't do those things.

Steve's videos are generally very much dry, factual reporting using fairly neutral language; or in other words: really decent reporting!

if you want to complain about some tech youtuber doing the exact things you complain about, look at linus and jay...

there's some good reasons why steve is one of only a handful of tech channels i still subscribe to...

Startup set to brick $800 kids robot is trying to open source it first

Reply in thread

it's about being able to read emotions:

a large portion of autistic people have trouble reading emotions in others.

that's why they're often drawn to things like books, comics, animated content, theater, and, like in this example, robots that clearly express their emotions.

speaking for myself (diagnosed ASD), it's the ambiguity that bothers me more than anything. i like it when things are nice and clear, neatly organized, and generally don't require a lot of attention to interpret.

interpreting the environment is taxing enough, adding a lot of emotional interpreting on top can quickly get overwhelming, which leads to poor mood, performance, and ultimately just straight-up headaches...again, this isn't a hunch, it was part of the ASD diagnostic test.

so i can imagine how much easier it is for kids with similar problems to relate emotionally to something that shows it's emotions in clear, easily recognizable ways, rather than having to guess constantly. that constant guessing gets real tiring, real quick...

IT consultant in Germany fined for exposing shoddy security

Reply in thread

actually, that's not what the law says.

the law says that "overcoming" security measures is a crime. nothing was "overcome".

plaintext is simply not a "security measure" and the law was applied wrong.

there may have been some form of infringement in regards to privacy or sensitive data or whatever, but it definitely wasn't "hacking" of any kind.

just like it isn't "hacking" to browse someone's computer files when they leave a device unlocked and accessible to anyone. invasion of privacy? sure. but not hacking.

and the law as written (§202a StGB) definitely states that security measures have to be circumvented in order to be applied.

that's the problem with the case!

not that the guy overstepped his bounds, but that the law was applied blatantly wrong and no due diligence was used in determining the outcome of the case.

BioWare has reportedly lost at least half its staff, with fewer than 100 people left and the studio a ghost of its former self

yeah, i think it's cracked the 1000$ mark for all content. barely any discounts, and lots of content that REALLY should be in the base game is gated behind dlc.

and i mean content that was available in previous games, that traditionally would have been in the new base game...

pirating is basically the only realistic way to play all of the content now.

and on top of that the game does have some pretty egregious performance and UX issues...
