With worldwide distribution most of us should be familiar with this beautiful perennial.

Also known as Scarlet Paintbrush or Indian Paintbrush. These are a common wildflower from late spring to early summer. I found this one in a local fen that houses plenty of beautiful flowers.

These violets are pretty common around me. A quite small yet beautiful violet. Some common uses are bedding plants, their edibility, uses in products like perfumes, and they have medicinal properties.

These blue flag irises are quite common here this time of year. One of most beautiful wildflowers the Midwest offers IMO.

They may be super common, but they're super pretty.

One of my favorite local wildflowers. They're quite common this time of spring. I hope I can find some pink ones this year.

One of the most common flowers this time of year. It is said these gaywings have been used to treat respiratory illness like asthma, coughing, and pneumonia. They've also been used as a "home remedy" to prevent conception and as an abortion medication.

Often mistaken for the lily-of-the-valley, the Canada mayflower is a common food source for deer in the spring to supplement phosphorus and calcium used for antler growth and lactation.

I found many of these beautiful violets in a swampy area. There still aren't too many flowers blooming yet. The next few weeks should see many other species pop out like my personal favorites the irises. I can't wait!

I was too lazy to switch to my macro lens, but my 75-300mm cheapo can do nicely sometimes. I wasn't able to get the azure color of the upper wings, but I did get a nice proboscis shot.

Tried my hand at some focus stacked macro shots. 6 image stack.

An often overlooked flower that's quite striking.

This may be cheating the system a bit. This is a wildflower, but non-native to my area. Crocus can be found wild in Africa and Eurasia. I only include it here because the birds must have eaten the seeds and spread it wide because I found it sprouting everywhere. I saw nothing I would consider planted by humans. Anyway, this flower is among the first to bloom. It's exciting to see any color other than dull green, brown, and gray this early in the season. The early pollinators were all over it.

Maybe not exactly what folks mostly associate with wildflowers, but they clearly bloom and have all the constituent parts of a flower. They're surprisingly pretty when you get up close for a look.
