Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) blossom

Grand Marais, MI. June 2026.

A common sight in the northern US. The chokecherry can be eaten and was a staple food to many indigenous peoples in the northern parts of the US. It can be quite bitter though, so much sugar is needed to make it palatable.

My brothers and I used to make eating these things the penalty for losing at stuff.

Board games, Rick rock paper scissors, dares, etc.

Was good fun
