Conversely my experience with CachyOS has been fantastic! Way better than I thought it would be. I do reccomend ext4 and having separate drives for storing all your files, though, because I did almost lose some stuff to a filesystem corruption on btrfs.

Corruption found on a corruption-detecting file system? Thats a feature, believe it or not. Ext4 wont tell you your data is rotting.

Either way, happy you are enjoying your experience.

The bigger issue is that btrfs comes with a bunch of recovery tools that all served their error message. Snapshots also failed to overwrite the data on the drive.

I even recovered everything in the home directory the WRONG way: forcing it to mount read only from a different operating system on a different drive and copying it over via terminal. There is a btrfs tool for this, which did not work.

I also hit up their liberachat to see if they would help me figure out where the problem is, and eventually one of them told me it was my fault for not having backups (even though I did have backups and never claimed otherwise). A more competent member came to the conclusion that the drive wasn't fully supported.

So yes, btrfs is cool and someday might be recommended but right now I don't think it's a good idea to leave as the default option.

Unfortunately most people still doesn't seem to care. In the recent Steam hardware survey Windows still holds 95% (Win 11 71% and Win 10 24%) with an increase in Windows users by 1.08% from the previous survey. Linux only has 3.05%, with a decrease of 0.85% from the previous one.

Rather disappointing.

Well, there is clearly some pushback, though, because most Windows 10 copies would have already reached End of Life between 2017 and 2025 if not for public outcry.

IDK how many of that 24% will go to Linux after microslop discontinues the last few LTSC holdouts, but I wager more than a few.

You reached the end
