I guess I’m just a boring person, I have nothing really to say or share that is post worthy, but I try to contribute to discussions when I can.

83

Especially when the vast majority just lurk (and even that still helps).

sh.itjust.works

Pretty sure reddit had a channel where you could post pictures of your poop. I think you could come up with something.

3

Share things you find interesting, you don't have to be interesting yourself

1
lemmy.world

Dude, you have only 56 posts...

Start whining when you have over 500.

Now get back to work, those posts aren't gonna make themselves

50

You better watch your tone or I’m gonna comment something vaguely abrasive and then get confused when I find an angry reply in like 6 hours, nerd.

lemmy.zip

I am actually quite annoyed at the reddit repost bots, they drown out Lemmy content in favour of Reddit reposts....

29

Exactly. Lemmy is a social media platform, not an archival service. People come here to talk to people, not bots.

7
Exeousreply
lemmy.world

I agree. Reddit repost no good. But normal post bot ok, bring in interesting subjects

6

The repost bots were probably needed to kickstart Lemmy with content, but now I feel like they are preventing a natural growth of the communities.

As it is now I feel that they add a layer of confusion to new members, they have made several Lemmy communities looking like vast empty cities, there are new content, but no people commenting or voting.

If any admin is reading tjis, please consider scaling back the repost bots.

6

I don't browse All because of this , but I did sub to simpsonsshitposts and yeah, just that one tends to dominate, even though most of the posts are indeed what it says on the tin, ie stupid worthless crap.

That many comments really does make a difference. Still, next time you see something cool online consider submitting it? It's not as bad here as you might think.

16

then post about your experience or wisdom you've gained from here?

3
lemmy.world

I didn't even comment for a long time because of the requirement to use a real email instead of disposable. I didn't even have a real email on Reddit and I created that account long after it was popular (but before they required real email accounts). Imo Lemmy cracked down on potential fake accounts too soon and it is costing them growth.

Registration, especially requiring legitimate credentials is a huge barrier for many people who would otherwise post.

I’m sorry but I don’t really see it being that much of a hurdle with services like SimpleLogin where you can activate an address, create an account and then deactivate it again. Or am I wrong here?

1

Lemmy.world's faq claims they will ban you when they eventually find out you used a service like that.

1
lemmy.world

turns out quantity over quality also ruins a platform

23

Maybe we could use AI to generate new and original content?

Since that might produce too much content for anybody to read, upvote and engage with, we could cover the user side with AI bots as well.

If we do this right we could completely automate social media. Maybe one day you won't even have to look at your phone because an army of bots is doing it for you.

19

Seems like there a couple of tech support communities already like that. Endless posts all made by different accounts from the same instance, constantly asking for help with Apple products or wifi 24/7.

5
kbin.social

Why not take it further and just lock ourselves into pods with feeding tubes.

4

Someone that needs a topic for their CS dissertation could do this.

Setup their own Lemmy server and train an AI on the fediverse. It would be funny to see if the AI agent's posts/comments converge.

3

This.

But also, don't just post useless crap like "This." Or one-liners. Or the most annoying shit ever, which is when people just type out lines from a song, as if they're singing them in person. Like dude, we know you just googled it and copy-pasted that from Genius.com. Don't spam me with your bad pun threads either please.

Although if someone whined about not enough content, they had to comment to do it!

People complaining? I feel like this is the perfect amount. I'd go to post something on reddit and see it was posted 12 times since I tried.

The fact that lemmy users are as humble as yourself is reason enough to keep this community going.

8
lemmy.ml

Fucking right!? Had a bunch of No Post Lemmy users calling my OC meme shit while it is the most upvoted post on lemmy this month. No matter what you post there are gonna be haters.

9

Haha I went through a phase where I made OG stuff and got shit on for it. I got a new perspective getting shit on by meme/content gatekeepers even though they never made jack shit. Like film critics

2
lemmy.ca

I don't know... I'm just on the toilet, really.

9
lemmings.world

Okay, so let's say I actually found the time and had the confidence in my own creativity/sense of humor to make a meme or something. What do you prolific people use?

I don't currently have access to a decent laptop for this purpose, so it would have to be on mobile, and every free image editor app I've tried is lousy at making meme images. Maybe I'm missing the obvious ones, but I could definitely use a 'For Dummies' tier guide to making OC.

7

I make all my dumb shit using my phone, pixellab on android does some basic enough stuff to make memes and shit.

2

found the time

Sharing links costs almost no time. Moet memes and stuff I make I just google x meme generator and there it is. It takes literally under a minute. Save to photo roll

To upload I use Memmy, while I use Voyager to scroll through Lemmy usually. I use memmy for uploading because it offers uploading images to imgur. Since my instance doesnt allow for image upload this is a good solution.

If I want to add text to a random image I just use whatsapp/signal to edit the image and send it to myself.

Don’t stress too much about thinking of a good title, puns are cool but not necessary.

1
eslemmy.es

A lot of people will upvote you if you say "tankie bad" as well. Branch out a little. Give it a try!

2

Fuck tankies. Seriously. I'd say fascist sympathizers and totalitarian apologists can eat shit, but they do that happily already; it's not an insult to them, they literally love eating shit.

2

Typically a communist who apologizes for authoritarian regimes like the Soviet Union or China because they got communist shit done.

In other words, they prefer communism even when it means the abject suffering and/or obliteration of everyone who gets in its way. Which seems to me to completely miss the whole point.

2

I saw a truck yesterday with a bunch of confederate bumper stickers on it, and fantasized for the rest of the day about how I could vandalize that dumbfuck's truck and get away with it. I really think there's a niche needing filled. Does lemmy have an Iron Front community yet?

2

I appreciate people that kickstart small communities. It's hard to keep posting when very few people actually engage.

5
lemmy.ml

It doesn't even need to be good content, just post content! I post bad shit to 196 all the time.

5
feddit.de

What is this 196 anyways it seems like they told an Ai make funny memes?

2

It's like a midden heap for memes. Everyone throws their random crap in there. Sometimes you find a gem amid the poo.

1
lemmy.ml

They posted a step by step guide for making improvised explosives.

8

You will be fine maybe your account will be erased.

Anyways probably banned for being an edge lord. I also like the anarchist cookbook at age 12.

monyet.cc

On browser version, scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on "modlog", then on the "Filter by user" bar, type in a part of OP's username and it will give you a list of matched user, pick the one on lemmy.world, and a list of mod action will shows.

4
programming.dev

I deleted almost everything I post. It's just full of whiny bitches

4

Thank you so much!! And here I think you dropped this: 👑

2

If you have an editor capable of using this format then you're definitely able to remove some text from a plain white background.

I'm very fond of Sync.

It's lemme.ee . I'll check it out thanks

feddit.de

You all need to post your family disputes online asking if the problem might be you.

Stories of you sharting on yourself.

Or erotica stories of you being an 18year old girl even though you are a fat person named John.

If you don't create content like that you will never steal whoreson spezz user base. So get at it.

4

nah man, not that kind of posts. the last we need is stupid coms like c/aita

1

You make it sound so easy... simple... wholesome. When it's nothing like that. No. Nothing like that at all. The Lem will grow. Patience little one. Enjoy the quiet and calm while you may. and above all - learn.

4
lemmy.world

I’m not talented enough to and when I do have ideas I take too long to find the right meme or image, and then I forget.

3
lemm.ee

Posting content complaining about about lack of new content

3
spudwart.com

I do post, but the last time I posted a lot I was told I was spamming. I posted 10 different memes in one day.

3

Gotta spread the love around to different communities, and parcel it out. Make ten memes and post two a day, meanwhile banking up more. If you have the talent for making memes, before long you'll have so many stored up that you can just post them at will, either over time or downthread as a reaction to something else and let someone else repost them.

1

I don't post because I don't have much interesting to share, but I've had some great interactions in the comments on this platform.

2
lemm.ee

Content about what? The communities in Lemmy that I care about have a grand total of 0 users and that's if I include myself. Not much of a conversation to be had.

1

If you post, maybe someone else who shared that interest will stumble across that community and comment or post, then it'll eventually turn into an active community. That's how all of them on Lemmy are born.

1

Not in the current social media climate. I want my content to actually be seen and interacted with. What we need is for Lemmy to have THE community for a particular interest. As long as there is some place bigger, that's the one people will use.

0

And having to deal with angry morons that like to argue about everything? Hell, no.

1

Thunder is great! Many features unbloated and clean interface.
