Boost, hands down! It was my favourite for Reddit and is still just as amazing in it's Lemmy version.

Same.

Used Liftoff before Boost became available but it was buggy. As soon as boost was released it was a no-brainer, moved straight over. The familiarity from using it with reddit is excellent, has a great feel and everything just works how it should.

7

Just installed Boost. So far, it's feeling so much better than either Jerboa or Connect.

Yep, sync with some tinkering in the settings brings me great comfort.

I think that's a thing that some people miss about it, it's incredibly customisable

That's precisely why I think it's far superior than most other clients. You can tweak it to be exactly how you want.

5

I first used Jerboa, but I hated it, then just abandoned lemmy until Sync for lemmy came out. No regrets.

Been using Eternity for a while now, works great. Handles lemmy links pretty well too.

43

Hands down the best option. Nothing ever comes close and I've tried all of them.

1

Boost! @rmayayo did such a great port. Best Reddit app, best lemmy app... On Android ;P

37

Boost. I used it's reddit app exclusively because I liked it so much, and the Lemmy version is perfect too. 10/10

Really enjoying Voyager so far. Avaliable as Android, iOS and PWA and best of all open-source ans free.

22

100% voyager. Recently moved from iOS to android and voyager is the nicest for me out of them all

2

I like sync. But I also like that there are so many different answers here. Seems to bode well for the fediverse.

17

Connect for Lemmy. It's a lot like Relay for Reddit was. And it lets you block users, communities, instances. I still have Thunder app and the /kbin instant app installed, but after the first month I rarely use them. Connect is great.

16
lemmy.world

Thunder. It gives me that Relay for Reddit experience and I've not needed to switch ever since downloading it.

16

Thank you. Connect has gotten much better since I started using it, but it's still pretty clunky, and I have come to hate their comment nesting. Thunder is working much better for me.

3

Came to vote for Eternity. Was an Infinity user when I was on the other place, so was really happy to see it land here too.

8

Yup! I'm so glad somebody mentioned it cause I've switched to it from Jerboa (hence, the edited post)

Firefox.

Seriously. Every app I've tried has come up short in one way or another. Lemmy is best in a browser and the best browser is Firefox.

I use Boost to browse. I use Firefox when I need to use mod/admin tools. Sync is the only app that has any mod tools at all so far.

2

I've been using sync pretty much every day since it became available, it was my Reddit client of choice too, so it's helped me cut Reddit out entirely.

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but does anyone know if any of the iOS apps have a similar experience to sync, particularly those with iPad support?

Boost is perfect, I used jerboa for a long time and is too buggy for me

12

Agreed. Though I'm thinking of going back to Jerboa one it becomes more usable.

2

I hopped over to Boost as soon as it was available. I was on Jerboa before but that was finicky.

12

I like experimenting and switching, so no choice is ever "final". Speaking of open source apps: Jerboa is the only native (kotlin+jetpack compose) for Android and its author is one of the very creators of Lemmy itself so he is an authority and I really like his "philosophy". Thunder offers a very polished and appealing UI/UX. Liftoff is feature rich even though somehow buggy. Apart from the mere app features, the community, the developer attitude, its being an open platform etc. are all factors to consider in my opinion.

Using Connect. Pretty happy with it so far. Feels smooth and snappy. Best of all, it doesn't collect any personal data.

11

Ditto. Used to be a Boost user on Reddit, joined Lemmy when Boost was released for it, but ended up switching to Connect because boost was finicky for me for some reason. Never saw any reason to look back, i like Connect better

3

I love connect! It has been really intuitive to use for me.

sopuli.xyz

Thank you! I didn't realize there was an Infinity remake for Lemmy! I think I might stick with it! (I'm typing this from the Eternity app rn)

5

Yep. Eternity is great.

I've been a long time Relay user, so it was difficult for me to adjust with the different Lemmy apps. But I've customized Eternity enough that I'm liking it now.

I'm using this Ponyo theme & it's awesome.

4

I was using it until boost came out. Swiping was extremely sensitive (no idea of they fixed it) and it would crash because it kept wanting to swipe both left and right and would just have a seizure. I wish joey were available...

2

Yeah, but is it abandoned? I've been having some issues lately, and there have been no updates for a while, now.

1

Nah the dev took some time off (had babies, I believe!) but is back now.

Voyager app

I also use Thunder but voyager is my go to app. I've tried most of the others but always end up back with voyager.

8

Second that. I tried Sync and Boost but ended up liking Voyager better.

3

Mostly it's just sightly clunky ui. I'm coming from Tusky for Mastodon for context. It's not really anything specific, just a general feel.

6

Sync was nice. But Boost is back! Was my favorite reddit app for years.

Jerboa I keep around, just in case. It was the first one I used. It is clunky, sadly. It just stutters way too much for some reason.

Yeah the developer updated us on what was going on a couple weeks back iirc he's still working on it just life happened. I'll see if i can find the post

Edit: it was pinned

2

Nevermind then, that's good to hear! I enjoyed but I eventually had to switch back to Jerboa because it was the only client at the time with proper spoiler support.

3

i gave up on jerboa in the earlier days and moved to Connect. havent felt the need to move on from that since then.

Jerboa may have improved since i used it though so don't that this as me slating it. Jerboa is developed by the same dev that writes the main lemmy backend and webapp so obvs he needs to prioritise that

feddit.cl

Boost is best no doubt.

But for low end phones (like mine), Jerboa is a good alternative.

5
lemmy.ca

Does Boost for Lemmy need more resources than Boost for Reddit of something? BfR ran better than the home screen on my 15 year old tablet.

2

Haven't done a direct comparison, but i would say it runs the same.

But like i said i run Jerboa since it's lighter on design and it's better optimized (uses Android 8.0 SDK instead of Boost's Android 5.0 SDK)

3

Went back to Jerboa, as the rest is worse in my experience. Thunder maybe?

lemm.ee

I prefer Sync but I can't figure out how to embiggen all text, so comments and stuff are fine but the actual text of a post is miniscule so I'm back on Voyager. I find the navigation a bit clunky but overall it's good. I also used connect for a while but it was slow.

Edit: thanks everyone who linked settings but none of those are it. Here is an example of what I see on posts in sync vs the comments. I also forgot it doesn't give me in app notifications if I get a message or response. I don't want push notifications but it doesn't give me in app notifications either. https://i.imgur.com/iUY2Sfw.png

4

Unfortunately that isn't the piece of text I need changed. I edited my commentveity a screenshot where description is extra large and comments are only large.

1

I have tried Connect, Sync, and Jerboa. They're all pretty nice, but Jerboa just "feels right" to me. Former BaconReader user fwiw

4
sh.itjust.works

Summit because it's the only app with moderation features implemented. I'll revisit other apps once they get to that part of their respective roadmaps.

4

Liftoff.

Was a Boost user and was excited for it to come out for Lemmy, but the post creation process doesn't look to do all what I want it to do, so I'm still using Liftoff.

If I was just lurking, I'd be using Boost because it looks great, but Liftoff gives me a similar browsing experience with better posting.

4

For now I kinda got stuck with boost. But I still have all the other major clients to try out from time to time.

3

I tried all of them but kept coming back to voyager...until boost came out. It's now my favorite, with voyager at #2 now.

3

Sync has a monthly fee to get rid of ads, Eternity is always ad-free

1

I have Memmy in iOS and it's great. The only thing I could wish is that I could either share memes or download them

1

Until a couple of days yi would have said Liftoff but I must admit Boost seems slightly better, the pro version, the free version with ads is awful, but at only 3.50 euros that's not expensive and worth the money

1

I liked Connect a lot better than Jerboa. I was presigned for Boost. Once it appeared and I've gotten used to it, the others don't seem to matter.
