Isn't angina a throat infection? Caused by Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria? I'm vegetarian and all, but really can't see the connection from meat to angina and I have recently had angina without eating meat lol

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angina

Angina, in full angina pectoris, is chest pain or pressure, usually caused by insufficient blood flow to the heart muscle (myocardium).[2] It is most commonly a symptom of coronary artery disease.[2]

Meat does not cause angina, cardiovascular issues are caused by inflammation and elevated insulin levels (caused by carbs).

Oh sorry, a language thing then! In my native tongue "angiina" is a throat infection, that usually requires antibiotics. But good to learn that it's whole other thing in English language!

I wonder whether the two words are related, whether English took a Latin word from generic pain and repurposed it for a very specific pain

Anyway it's a commonly known word in English because the common diet causes heart disease so we hear about angina from elderly relatives

Must be vessel-inflammation or something similar in latin. Angiogenesis -> blood vessel formation (angio being blood vessel), -ina is a suffix for inflammation, therefore angina -> blood vessel inflammation

This is speculative from my working knowledge of some biological terms, I haven't looked up the etymology (yet)

edit after google:

  1. there are many medical anginas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angina_(disambiguation)

  2. I was right for the wrong reasons. The etymology is greek: ankhonē "a strangling". Originally it referred to the aforementioned throat infection in english, then evolved into chest pain. https://www.etymonline.com/word/angina

I looked it up, English used to use it for strep throat or tonsillitis. Then 'angina of the chest' was used and since we have other words for strep throat and tonsillitis angina came to exclusively mean heart pain

Yeah, the common diet isn't good for your heart

My local fried chicken place has a heart foundation tick for their low salt deep fried chicken sandwiches. I think the heat foundation isn't up on the latest heart health research

the common diet

Western diet. Labs literally feed mice like Arbys customers to clog their hearts.

2

Indeed. The western diet is remarkably like what is fed to farmed animals to make them fat

2

That's where angina happens, it's an indication of heat disease

Please speak plainly, it helps us to understand you better, especially with text. Where else can angina occur?

all carbs get turned into serum glucose, glucose drives insulin, elevated insulin wrecks havoc with your cardiovascular system.

i love this meme, they are making fun of meat eaters, but they were not wrong.. it originally said fruit... which isn't wrong..... sometimes irony swings all the way around to truth.

Not all of the carbs, fructose (half of cane sugar) is converted to body fat

For me fructose gets converted directly into gastrointestinal distress!
