Yeah, most of the traffic drop was attributable to search spiders not running, not bots. Yandex is a state-captive search engine.

Routing of bot and troll traffic is almost certainly more diverse than that. There's no readon it should be concentrated in specific data centers.

Having said all that, though, it'd be a happy day in my life to find out that some botnets were taken down or, better yet, some troll farms got droned.

This is wishful thinking. There are articles out there that looked into the real numbers and the impact was very small and temporary. I would have loved for it to be true

Yeah, exactly. It was too good to be true, unfortunately. That's literally not how data centres work, after all.

It's trivial, for any kind of such bot-user-automation that would be set up in one such data centre, to just be moved and reset within minutes, or even automatically, to another physical provider, if one goes down.

Also, one of the original posts containing the viral graph, was by a conspiracy-bullshitter twitter account pretending he had white-house-insider knowledge, and the graph was literally stolen from another account, that had made it with AI. It was just a fake graph.

I'm just tired of seeing poor news articles from the source.

Hell even mbfc rates them poorly (which is shocking considering they're usually extremely pro western propaganda providers)

MBFC Credibility Rating: MEDIUM CREDIBILITY

Then again unsurprisingly they don't really doc them as they do others for non existant transparency

We also rate them as mostly factual rather than high due to a lack of transparency. (D. Van Zandt 07/12/2025)

Yeah, it's like the same news, but again. Did it go down another 84%? Is that a different number? Did they even strike a data center or are they just saying it?

I'm curious what the hexbear and lemmygrad folks have to say about this. A shame my blocklist will never let me know.

Those communities are such a vile, toxic cesspool of hatred.

I once ended up there to try to understand some perspective—going in with genuine curiosity, open-mindedness and kindness, and leaving sick to my stomache about how terrible and hateful people can be.

I have not a semblance of respect for anybody who chooses to participate in that cult.
