Omg the fist 3 replies are genuinely wholesome

(I just read the first 3 cuz reddit do not let me see the others...)

I was going to make a smug "Helpful and kind on reddit? This must have been a while ago!" comment but now I don't have too lol

24

Reddit was more respectable before the new-reddit fiasco of 2018.

9

I was about to comment that I'm pretty sure I first saw this a decade ago. I hate that I've been on the internet long enough to be right...

6

There were several seriously nice interactions on reddit, though I can't say it that happened before or after that. The free use PDF tool for example was really great.

2

The only way I see this happening- is if it was over a decade ago.

If you ever need to use reddit, you have to refresh it everytime the stupid sign in pops up.

2

I usuallt just use uBlock to delete the banner and go on, i tried to add it to my blocklist but apparently the element id changes at every refresh :/

On mobile phones you can just use “hide distraction” features to get rid of that kind of stuff. Typically they are available on default browsers like safari

Just a bot reposting something popular so it can get enough karma sow disinformation and destabilize democracy.

-1

OP is definitely not a bot, they're unironically the nicest person on the entire fediverse

2

Considering that Lemmy doesn't have karma counts, explain how step one of your plan makes any sense on this platform?

It's much more common to see a bot either wait 1-2 weeks and then jump into bullshit head-first or immediately post a handful of memes in random communities before diving into its bullshit. OP doesn't fit into either of those patterns, and engages in the comment sections of their and others' posts in a way that bots typically don't.

Believe it or not, it kinda is. Even as the various waves of r/efugees have come over, the nastier ones tend to leave quickly, and the ones that were always there for human connection are more prone to stay. The problem is exposure. Someone has to run across the comment or post that needs help, and the numbers are lower on the fediverse. It takes longer to get responses, which means that sometimes that post or comment gets buried before someone can notice.

But if you pay attention to it, it happens often enough that it seems out of proportion to the population.

Not that the fediverse is without flaws, but it is largely still a helpful place, with an overall lower snark level.

  1. (optional) Check the online menu and take a mental note of what you want.
  2. Go to the counter and wait in line.
  3. Find the type of sandwich, bread, and cheese you want. Also check the toppings in case you want extras.
  4. Wait for the sandwich barista to acknowledge you, smile, and say "Hello, I would like a {type of sandwich} on {type of bread}, please". You can choose to have it toasted at this point.
  5. When asked, mention the extra toppings. If they skip the toppings, you can politely interject with something like "Oh I just remembered, could I also get some {extras} with that?".
  6. Check the sauces. When asked, say which one you want. You can also ask for spices like Oregano here.
  7. When asked, say whether you want to eat it here or take it away.
  8. Pay.
  9. Say "Thank you, have a nice day!" to the sandwich barista and enjoy your meal.

Hope this helps!

Im so used to this style of ordering where you just point and say what you want, that one time i went to a bahn mi stall in a food court and starting doing that and the guy was so confused. They even had all the toppings and meat out in front like that!

He was like "its kinda a pre-made thing" And i was like "ok but i dont actually care about having a 'bahn mi' i just want a sandwich so can i pick and choose?" (There were no other sandwich stalls in this food court)

Yeah but it was reddit so there were also 1,600 self righteous overweight basement dwellers pretending to be nobel laureates while each one tries to out edgy all the others.

As if Lemmy doesn’t have a self-righteousness problem. I mean it’s full of former Redditors who now think they’re better than the average Redditor because they left.

The overweight part of your comment was unnecessary.

6

The traditional toxic redditor stereotype never struck me as particularly overweight.

The less pleasant portions of the community have a pretty long history of hating fat people, and the last few years I was there I noticed a bit of a trend toward somewhat puritanical outlooks on indulgent food or general alcohol use. Still anecdotal, but this corroborated with my (ill-advised) decision to attend a reddit meet up. Not a lot of fat people there.

My guess is that though many were not overweight, they didn't have much else going for them. It was easier to insult someone being overweight than being broke or single or too online because it was the one that didn't apply to them.

Right, because skinny people = good and fat people = bad...

I don't have the same anxiety, but I also always want to say just make the menu version, and why do you have menus if you can't just make it. And also, if something is called a Caesar, why the holy fucking shit are you asking me what dressing I want?

Same! I avoid subway for this reason. I'm hungry, i just want to pick something and eat it!

2

Well there's plenty of reasons to avoid it, but if I can't, I just tend to list what the picture shows and banana peppers, but it'd be nice if they did substitutions instead.

You reached the end
